But Rachel Bilson appeared to cast her heartache aside on Monday, as she enjoyed a girly shopping trip in LA with her daughter Briar Rose and a gal pal.

The actress, 36, was casually cool in boyfriend jeans and a chunky knit cardigan as she took her little girl Christmas tree shopping in Toluca Lake, before they stocked up on treats at the supermarket.

The OC star was effortlessly stylish in a plain white T-shirt and loose-fitting boyfriend jeans, which skimmed her leggy figure to the floor.

Wrapping up warm in the chillier winter climes, Rachel then added a chunky cable knit cardigan on top, embroidered with a print of the sea around the hem.

Maintaining the casual vibe from head to toe, the brunette tied her look together with white sports trainers and went make-up free - to draw attention to naturally striking features.

Rachel split from Briar Rose's father and fellow actor Hayden Christensen in September, after ten years of romance.

A source told US Weekly at the time: 'She's full-time back in Los Angeles and he's in Toronto. They've been on the outs for a couple of months.'

Sparks flew when the acting duo met on the set of science fiction flick Jumper back in 2007, and they became engaged in February 2009.

While the lovebirds called it quits in 2010, they rekindled the flames of their love affair just three months after their break-up.

The pair then went onto welcome their three-year-old daughter Brian Rose in October 2014.

At the time, Hayden told E! News: 'I have this little angel in my life now and Rachel and I are so thrilled. We don't sleep as much as we used to but it's all so worth it.'

In August 2017, the couple sold their sprawling Sherman Oaks home in a private off-market deal for $3.8 million.
