Chess Grandmasters have mocked and questioned a 'trendy' new logo for the London's World Chess Championships.

Organisers described the logo as 'controversial and trendy, just like the host city'.
But masters of the game have taken to social media to mock and question the unusual design.

Norway's number one and current holder of the chess crown, Magnus Carlsen (left with former Chancellor George Osborne), will take on a challenger who is to be decided during a tournament in March
David Smerdon, the Australian chess Grandmaster, said: 'No, this is not a joke. You had one job.'
British Grandmaster Nigel Short commented the organisers were 'perhaps suggesting that they are giving the chess world a good f*****g.'
Susan Polgar, who pioneered women's chess, questioned whether the logo was suitable for children.
Social media users also picked up on the subtle fact the board in the logo on had 6x6 squares and not the 8x8 required for a real game.

World Chess, the commercial arm of the game's governing body Fide, said the logo was created by Russian studio Shuka Design.
A spokesman for World Chess said: 'As organizers of the Match we’ve been busy for over a year working with artists and designers to develop a perfect key visual, the image that will be associated with the 2018 Match and which will find its way onto mugs, posters, outdoor displays, venue design, media, broadcasting graphics and more.'
The match is expected to take place next November at a venue in London that is yet to be confirmed.
