London family ordered to give £600,000 home to neighbours

The Constantine family say they have been told to move out of their house in East Ham, London, and give their keys to their neighbours, the Alis, after losing a legal battle over an extension. The two families have been locked in an eight-year row after the Constantines accused the Alis of trespass by building their extension on three inches of the Constantine garden (left and inset, the fence which caused the dispute). Now, a court has decided that the Constantines must move out of their home in less than three weeks and hand the seven-bedroom £600,000 home to the Alis to sell to cover their legal fees. Yvette Constantine, 57, and husband Herman, 66, who have three adult children, have been left devastated by the ruling, which means they could be left homeless over Christmas.

Scotland Yard is to review hundreds of rape cases

Isaac Itiary, 24, (left) was released from prison yesterday on the eve of his child rape trial after it emerged that his 15-year-old alleged victim routinely posed a 19-year-old. Last Thursday Liam Allan's rape trial collapsed because police failed to disclose damning text messages that showed his lover fantasised about being raped and asked Mr Allan (right with his mother Lorraine) for casual sex after she said she was attacked. Both cases with led by Met Detective Constable Mark Azariah (inset) who is still working at Scotland Yard's sexual offences unit and has not been suspended. Barrister Jerry Hayes asked the judge in Mr Allan's case to end the Croydon Crown Court trial and said that the blunders Mr Itiary's case is proof the problem is widespread. He said: 'If there's an ongoing investigation and you're about to go to trial if I was defence barrister or for that matter prosecution barrister, I would demand in writing a letter for police and the CPS that there's nothing that could undermine the prosecution. He added: ‘[And if you've already been convicted] They need to look at it again.’

Police foil Christmas market bomb plot in Chesterfield

Fearing they had found a possible bomb factory in a flat over a fish and chip shop (pictured top right and inset), counter-terrorism officers urgently evacuated dozens of neighbours from their homes. Police dragged a man from his bed and led him away wearing only his underwear. An Army bomb disposal unit from the Royal Logistics Corps was also sent to the property in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Security sources suggested that the plot may have been intending to target a Christmas market in or around the London area. Meanwhile intelligence chiefs were said to have believed 'one or two bombs' were being made. Yesterday, police raided a flat at the back of the Fatima Community Centre (bottom right), a building used as a mosque and for teaching Arabic to children. The mosque is run by the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB), which has previously been claimed to be an alleged Muslim Brotherhood front.

Teacher Alan Hawe who murdered family wrote 'sorry' note

In a note found at the family home in Ballyjamesduff in Co Cavan, Ireland, Hawe wrote: 'I am sorry for my brutality but I had no other way,' adding that it was easier for his sons to die than deal with his suicide. Alan Hawe (pictured with his family), 40, slaughtered his three sons Liam, 13, Niall, 11, and Ryan, 6, by cutting their throats, an inquest found. He also murdered his wife Clodagh, 39, with an axe before he killed himself in August last year. But in a note found at the family home and published by the Irish Daily Star, Hawe wrote: 'I am sorry for how I murdered them all but I simply had no other way.' The note, which was addressed to his parents and siblings as well as his wife's mother and sister (inset left), also explained: 'I am sorry for my brutality but I had no other way.'
