'Just having girls message me being like, "I’m really dealing with the pressure of my thoughts, my friends, eating disorders."

'That kind of thing, where I was like, I have an opportunity to really be there for them and help…be a voice for teens and be honest as to how I suffered as a teenager.'

Detailing the message she wants readers to take away from the novel, Cara added: 'That life is a beautiful mixture of wonderful disaster, but to truly love yourself is so important.'

With the book following a group of teenagers, Cara recently discussed her own struggles in her youth on This Morning.

Calling her teenage years a 'dark' time, she revealed while promoting her book on the show: 'Those are some of the points I remember the most. I didn’t know how to communicate my emotions.

'I was very ashamed of the way I felt. I had a very privileged upbringing, I was very lucky, I went to an amazing school, but I had depression and I had moments when I didn’t want to carry on.

'And then the guilt of feeling that way and not being able to tell anyone because I shouldn’t feel that way and I shouldn’t feel bad. It’s the guilt.'

However, she affirmed the 'traumatic' time had made her a stronger person, and she now wants to use her own battles to inspire others today.

'That’s what I want to be for teenagers, not necessarily a role model, but someone who has been through it and come out the other side,' she added.
