Carols in the Bark! Australia's cutest dogs pose for pictures with Santa Claus - and the results will melt your heart

  • The event was put on by Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
  • Hundreds brought their furry friends to enjoy the holiday festivities in Sydney
  • There was also a station where people could create pupcakes and dog biscuits
  • RSPCA put on the event because dogs are often barred from caroling events

Puppies are always on the top of children's Christmas wish lists, and last weekend it was their turn to finally take a picture with Santa Claus.

The dogs of Sydney came out for Carols in the Bark, an event put on by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in New South Wales.

While dogs are usually barred from attending caroling events and pictures with St Nick, the RSPCA NSW wanted to give them a chance to join in on the holiday cheer.

'We wanted to put on an event where people can enjoy the Carols atmosphere with their four-legged family members,' Phoebe Brasher, the organisation's community fundraising manager, told Daily Mail Australia.

Pups of all shapes and sizes arrived at the Bowling Green in Parramatta Park for a festive afternoon that included photos with Santa Claus and some exciting snacks.

Owners could make mini pupcakes and dog biscuits for their furry friends at the Christmas Treat Creation Station, complete with colourful holiday decorations.

Hundreds of people came out to enjoy a day on the lawn with their best friend, listening to Christmas classics with a special sing-along concert program.

The day of fun was also for a good cause. Owners were asked to donate to the annual RSPCA NSW Christmas Toy Drive.

All the donated toys are being given to pups who have to spend the holiday season in a shelter instead of a forever home.

'Each year, more than 33,000 animals turn to RSPCA NSW for help,' Brasher said.

'Of course the perfect gift this Christmas would be for all our animals to find their fur-ever homes, but having toys donated for them will make their temporary home that little easier.'

Brasher recalled one little pup named Candy, who was surrendered to the RSPCA in March with her brother Billy.

'Candy would get quite anxious when away from Billy, and would rely on her toys to keep her comforted in the shelter,' she said.

'There are many animals like Candy that depend on their toys to bring them joy during this time in their temporary homes.'

'We all shower our pets at home with gifts from Christmas, and shelter animals deserve the same.'
