As he is juggling a career in his mid-forties while keeping in pinnacle shape, no doubt it is a challenge to stay motivated.

However Mark revealed the secret to his work ethic is putting himself in a desperate mindset.

He explained: 'The only way to be the best is to keep working like you got nothing. Keep getting after it, and be more and more aggressive, more and more focused every day. I don’t know.

'I have more drive and desire now than I ever have.'

No doubt the now A-lister knows what it's like to start from the bottom as he ended up spending time in prison for assaulting a Vietnamese man while in his teens.

He was asked by writer Stephen Rodrick what turned his life around for the better as he responded: 'Uh, jail.'

The mentality certainly seems to have worked as he looked in fantastic shape as he sported a grey shirt with clinging short sleeves which showed off his ripped arms for the front of the fitness publication.

Of course The Departed star had to detail his workout regimen as he said: 'I'm doing [the Versaclimber] twice a day and jumping rope.'

Despite being a diehard Boston Celtics fan, Wahlberg revealed that he has stopped hitting the hardwood because he doesn't want to put himself at risk to ruin a role or keep him away from other activities.

He said: 'I don’t play basketball anymore because I don’t want to roll an ankle • and miss a movie or screw up my golf game.'

During the pictorial, he was shown showing off his athletic prowess including swinging battle ropes and lifting a large tire as both are very good strength and cardiovascular workouts.

His time on set seemed to be a worthwhile experience as he revealed veteran actor Gibson gave him some advice on his career.

Wahlberg said: 'He passed on a lot of movies, a lot of really good movies. And he told me, "You should get it while there’s time. Get it while it’s there. If you’ve got an opportunity, work."'
