She plays the fierce and feisty Rey in the franchise, who joins the Resistance after discovering she is sensitive to the Force.

But Daisy Ridley was worlds away from her action-packed character on Wednesday, as she put on a chic display at the Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiere in China.

The 25-year-old dazzled in an oriental-inspired dress, jazzed up by a grungy studded collar, as she joined co-star Mark Hamill and famous droids BB-8 and R2-D2 on the red carpet in Shanghai.

The brunette paid homage to the city in her striking oriental midi dress, which hugged her slender frame with its stunning turquoise and green silk material.

Making the look more trendy however, the frock also featured a grungy studded black panel on the shoulders, secured by a grungy collar of multi-coloured rings and gems.

She added metallic heeled sandals for an added touch of glamour, but slicked her hair back into a bold up-do, to maintain the androgynous feel throughout.

Sporting shimmering gold eye shadow and a bold pink lip, Daisy drew attention to her naturally striking features as she posed with her co-stars on the carpet.

She first joined a suited-and-booted Mark Hamill on the carpet, who has played Luke Skywalker since the original Star Wars in 1977, before the pair playfully posed alongside the series' famous droids BB-8 and R2-D2.

Daisy recently admitted that while the pair are now close friends, she struggled to learn how to trust her new on-screen partner and franchise veteran Mark at first.

Speaking at the UK premiere last week, she revealed: 'I was nervous going in, because John [Boyega] and I were no longer together, and John is my peanut.

'So I think more than anything, I learned to put your trust in those around you and it’ll all turn out pretty well. Putting my trust in Mark and Rian [Johnson, the movie’s director] mainly, was wonderful.'

When asked if she found it any easier the second time around, she said: 'I actually felt more nervous because I didn’t know what I was doing the first time around, and you kind of think, how am I supposed to do something again when I didn’t know what I did the first time?

'And I think because people responded so well to John and I together that was a big thing too, thinking how are people going to respond when we’re not together.

Taking control of the franchise from J.J. Abrams, director Rian Johnson has been lauded for his 'bold' but also 'witty' and 'nostalgic' eighth installment.

However, with a 152-minute running time, other critics were quick to bemoan its length, which they claim caused the plot to become 'muddled' and 'confused'.
