And when she was photographed out in the Big Apple on Monday, Sarah Jessica Parker looked a quintessential image of the town.

Wrapped in an overcoat and balancing on high-heeled boots, the 52-year-old stood in a crosswalk and raised her hand, possibly trying to hail a cab.

Sarah Jessica's hair had been slicked severely back and tied up into a ponytail, and she left her fuzzy brown Emory Bee coat open except for its top button.

She played up her enviably trim legs in a pair of fitted jeans, slinging a purse over one shoulder and a larger bag over the other.

Born in Nelsonville, Ohio, she now lives in Manhattan with her husband Matthew Broderick and their three children - Marion, eight, and twins James and Tabitha, 15.

Sex And The City's iconic central quartet was Carrie, Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones, Cynthia Nixon's Miranda Hobbes and Kristin Davis' Charlotte York.
