The bribery didn't work, though, as Senate Republicans managed to push through the new tax bill by a narrow and last minute margin of 51-48. It's also illegal to offer money to a politician to influence acts such as voting on a bill -but O'Donnell may not know that.

Olympic gold medalist McKayla Maroney has filed a lawsuit against USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee accusing them of trying to silence her claims of sexual abuse. Maroney claims in the lawsuit filed on Wednesday that officials made her sign a confidential non-disclosure agreement to keep secret the allegations that she had been sexually abused by former team doctor Larry Nassar. The 22-year-old revealed on Twitter in October that Nassar had allegedly molested her for seven years beginning when she was 13.

Coca-Cola's seasonal cans might look like nondescript household items, but they actually contain hidden messages that can easily go unseen. From their eyes and eyelashes to their noses, the polar bears on the cans carry secret symbols that seem shockingly obvious once the sneaky signs are pointed out. The brand previously disclosed the secret symbols last year, but the hidden drawings received renewed attention earlier this month when a Reddit user spotted them. Frederic Kahn, the design director of Coca-Cola, previously explained that the hidden symbols were placed on the cans intentionally to help signal the brand's identity.

Samantha Ciotta, 32, was charged on Monday in Beaumont, California over the alleged sexual relationship with her student that took place back in June. The Beaumont High English teacher was arrested in September after she was allegedly spotted in a drunken Snapchat video wearing 'a shirt and panties' with two shirtless teen boys. The teenager initially told police he was 'not f***ing talking' about the allegations but spoke up when he learned Ciotta had said he had 'ruined her life'. The boy allegedly admitted to having sex with the teacher at least five times over several months and that he couldn't remember how many times she had performed oral sex on him because he was often drunk.

Sergeant Mike Blackwood says the two dogs that killed their owner, Betheny Stephens (left and right, with one or both of the killer dogs - they are not identified), were 'a little bit neglected'. Friends said the 22-year-old treated her dogs like children, but they had been living with her father for the past couple of months due to her divorce. The dogs went from being indoor dogs to living in an outdoor kennel 24/7. The only time they were fed or got human interaction was when Bethany visited, about five days a week. Stephens' body was discovered by her father about a day after she had taken the dogs for a walk. Cops say when they reported to the scene, the dogs were chewing on Stephens' ribs. They've ruled out foul play in Stephens' death. The dogs were euthanized on Saturday.

And inside was a valuable cargo - the ship was overrun with gooseneck barnacles (inset right), a delicacy that can cost diners £90 a plate. Photos from the wreckage show masses of the barnacles clinging to the overturned hull, as well as seagulls feasting on them. Experts say that, after the tsunami, the vessel was most likely trapped by the Kuroshio Current which runs along Japan's east coast. NEW Deputies in Isabella, Minnesota, shot and killed a female black bear. The animal attacked Bill Vagts, 68 (right), and his dog on Tuesday morning. She then attacked two construction workers nearby, but everyone survived. Two men are in the hospital and expected to fully recover. Lake County deputies tracked the bear and fatally shot it after the attacks.

Haunting images have emerged from inside an abandoned state hospital where it is said the ghost of a young girl walks the corridors.  Legend states the girl, dressed in a white gown, stares out of the window of the Fairfield Hills State Hospital in Newtown, Connecticut.  The hospital is a derelict psychiatric asylum where tales of cruelty and mistreatment have cast a shadow over the establishment.  The hospital is said to have been the first place to perform a lobotomy on a mentally ill patient in the United States.

A photographer in Kelly, Wyoming was in for a surprise when she stumbled across a bizarre wall of snow that appeared to be moving towards her. The phenomenon, which is described as a 'ghost snow tsunami', was created as a rare light and wind alignment caused a mesmerising mirage to form on the horizon. The stunning display lasted for several minutes before the wave dissipated as the winds changed direction.

A group of tourists were left stunned when three majestic polar bears wandered up to them through the snow. An electric fence had been erected in order to ensure the safety of the explorers from the great white bears.
