He's the hunky star whose bulging biceps are known to send fans' hearts aflutter.

But it was Zac Efron's striking new facial hair that had heads turning as he touched down in Sydney this Tuesday. 

Arriving Down Under ahead of the premier of his new flick The Greatest Showman, Zac, 30, sported a distinctive, retro-inspired mustache as he strolled through the bustling terminal at Sydney Airport.

Zac's elongated sideburns were also manicured to perfection, while his famously well-coiffed mane was hidden beneath a black baseball cap. 

He looked typically stylish despite for the off-duty occasion, donning an all-black ensemble consisting of a FRAME T-shirt, slouch-fit chino trousers and a pair of ankle boots.

The muscle-bound lothario completed his look with a sassy pair of square-framed sunglasses and a stack of beaded bracelets.

Zac has been hot on the promotions trail for his new film The Greatest Showman, which stars Australia's own Hugh Jackman.

His return to the musical genre comes almost a decade after his iconic roles in High School Musical and Hairspray.

'It feels great. It feels good. This is a real neat one too. It's just different,' he recently told E! News of his return to musical theatre.

Zac, who plays the role of circus performer Phillip Carlyle, added: 'The movie is very powerful and has a lot to say. I think it's an important one for our generation so it's got a big voice and the potential for it to be heard for our generation is really massive.' 

The Greatest Showman follows American showman P.T. Barnum, played by Hugh Jackman, as he becomes the founder of the circus that became the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.  

Also starring in the blockbuster is pop-star Zendaya (real name Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman), who plays Phillip Carlyle's fellow performer and love interest Anne Wheeler.
