He may be living a healthier lifestyle after vowing to cut down on cigarettes and alcohol - but Simon Cowell doesn't pay much attention to sun protection.

Reaping the benefits of his lifestyle overhaul, the X Factor judge showed off a slimmer figure on the beach in Barbados, but his chest was a very festive red.

The music mogul soaked up the sun with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman, 40, during a relaxed stroll along the Eastern Caribbean island's shoreline on Wednesday.

Looking good: Simon Cowell seemed to be reaping the benefits of his lifestyle overhaul as he showed off his slimmer figure while hitting the beach on Wednesday with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman during his annual Barbados getaway

The X Factor judge looked utterly relaxed for the beach outing, rocking white board shorts and mirrored aviators.

He appeared to be in great spirits and laughed and chatted happily with Lauren as they hit the surf.

Simon was visibly slimmer after falling down the stairs in his London home due to low blood pressure in October and vowing to overhaul his bad habits.

His long-term partner Lauren, meanwhile, showed off her lithe physique in a skimpy burgundy-hued bikini as she made her way down to the beach.

The couple made it an adults-only affair, stepping out for the sporty excursion without their adorable three-year-old son Eric, who has been spotted enjoying the delights of the beach with his parents over the past several days.

Simon feared he had 'broken his neck' after falling down the stairs at his London home at the end of October.

And after vowing to take 'good care of himself' he appeared to be sticking to his word and has ditched vodka from his diet, as well as making a conscious effort to severely cut down on the amount of cigarettes he smokes per day.

Speaking to Now magazine, the music mogul told the publication: 'I've cut down smoking to two [cigarettes] a day. That's it!'

He had been known to smoke up to 80 cigarettes a day and revealed he has now stuck to drinking just water.

The star had left many concerned following news he had fallen at his home and had to be rushed to hospital. It's believed Simon fell down the stairs early in the morning, as he tripped while going to get a glass of milk.

Simon was forced to miss the live show of The X Factor as a result and had admitted that the terrifying fall had reminded him he isn't 'invincible'. He was pictured being rushed to hospital while being stretchered out of his home in a neck brace.

After undergoing tests, Simon later returned to his home on the same day. He had been alone at the time of his fall, as his girlfriend Lauren Silverman was over in the US.

He was replaced by Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon for the first X Factor live show, where host Dermot O'Leary had addressed his absence and jokingly asking the rest of the judging panel, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne, who was to blame for Simon's accident.

Simon, meanwhile, later spoke about the fall and revealed he had fainted as a result of low blood pressure. Speaking to The Sun, Simon vowed to clean up his lifestyle for the sake of his young son Eric, three, whom he shares with Lauren.

He claimed it was his 'responsibility' as a father to take care of his health. 'Sometimes we get a reminder that we're not invincible and this was certainly mine,' he said.

'It was a huge shock. They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to really take good care of myself to sort that out. After all I am a dad and have more responsibility than ever.'

The Cowells have made the 4,000 mile trip to Barbados for the last few years to ring in Christmas and the New Year as a family.

The media boss has owned a property on the Eastern Caribbean island for a number of years, and often joins his family a few days later for the winter festivities.

In 2013, it was revealed Simon had been in a relationship with his then-best friend Andrew Silverman's wife Lauren, after pictures emerged of them kissing on a yacht.

The pair then welcomed their son - a half-sibling for Lauren's eldest son Adam, 11, from her previous marriage - in February 2014, and named him after Simon's late father, who died in 1999.

While he is now closer than ever with his little boy, Simon confessed last year that he had struggled to form a bond with the tot after he first arrived.

Yet, Simon later admitted to the Daily Star that the pair were now closer than ever - with Eric even confiding in him about his seemingly hectic love life.

The producer joked to the paper: 'I think he has my charm with the ladies. I asked him the other day how many girlfriends he's got and I think he's got five currently, so he's doing OK.'
