So it's perhaps no surprise that Maggie Gyllenhaal, 39, strips down to nearly nothing in her role as a Times Square sex worker named Candy.
Raunchy scenes from HBO drama The Deuce show Jake Gyllenhaal's big sister baring her breasts in a racy topless scene before locking lips with another woman while her character films a low budget porn movie.

Leaning casually against a folded out sofa bed, the Hollywood star looks bored as her character watches a naked man standing in front of her.
Clad in a badly fitted blonde wig arranged in a side plait, the actress looks practically unrecognisable from the dark-haired star famous for roles in the likes of The Dark Knight and Donnie Darko.
In the racy scenes, she is seen kneeling on the floor at the foot of the sofa bed while staring up at a man, before climbing onto the bed with another woman after her character Candy agrees to take part in a low budget adult movie.
Double trouble: Maggie's character Candy agrees to take part in a low budget porn movie alongside another woman, which is shot in the basement of a house in the New York suburbs
Wearing a white bodysuit, the Golden Globe Award-winning actress is seen leaning into her female co-star and gazing up at the camera, as two naked men stand just off screen.
The other woman is clad in a skimpy purple negligee as she wraps her arms around Maggie's characters waist while the cameras roll.

The Deuce was created by the team behind another HBO smash hit series, The Wire, and follows the story of the legalisation of the porn industry and subsequent boom of prostitution and porn in Times Square.
It takes place from the 1970s to 1980s and also stars Hollywood actor James Franco, who plays twins Vincent Martino, who serve as a front for the mob.
Maggie's character uses the name Candy on the streets but her real name is Eileen Merill. She's an independent prostitute and single mother.

Per a trailer for the series, Candy ventures from prostitution into the newly legal porn business, ultimately making her way behind the camera.
She explained to Time Out recently: 'She gets involved in the beginnings of porn in someone’s basement. And even though there’s two naked guys and another naked woman and they’re filming sex, that’s incidental to her.
'What’s exciting for her is the lighting, the idea of looking at sex through a lens. It’s the birth of an artist. Once that gets woken up in her, it can’t go back to sleep.'
New career? Maggie has said her character Candy is enthralled by the idea of movie making after she takes part in the low budget adult film
'The birth of an artist': Maggie says Candy isn't interested in the sex or porn, it's all about what happens behind the camera

Messy: tins of potato soup are opened on set during the explicit scenes
Some of Maggie's sex scenes were directed by co-star James, who has praised her professionalism on set.
He told Men's Health in August: 'I had to direct sex scenes in The Deuce and, whooo, it was interesting, I have to say.
'Maggie Gyllenhaal, in addition to being just an incredible actress, is fearless, and she really led the charge with how she handled the sex scenes and how she handled herself, and really set the template for everyone else.'
Getting into character: Maggie spoke to real life sex workers from the 1970s to prepare for her role
Maggie, meanwhile, spoke to 1970s prostitutes while preparing for the role, and told Vulture: 'There’s this fake power structure for prostitutes where you go: "I’m in charge, I’m going to set the price, I’m going to set the boundaries," and yet you’re alone in a room with someone that could rape you if they wanted to.'
She went on: 'I think that’s troubling, and I think that requires an amount of dissociation that makes it impossible to keep your mind intact,' also discussing the fact filming went on as last year's U.S. election campaigns thundered along.
'We would be watching the debates at lunch. I feel like my sense of sexism in relation to my own life got much clearer.' she's theorised, adding that 'to be playing a prostitute who is dealing with herself in relation to her sexuality, her money, her art, her intellect, was pretty fascinating'.
Switching roles: Maggie's co-star James Franco jumped behind the camera on The Deuce and has praised Maggie's professionalism while filming sex scenes
