Come together! Sir Paul McCartney cuts a youthful figure as he kicks off his first Australian tour in nearly 25 years

He's the iconic British songwriter who hasn't set foot in Australia in almost 25 years

But the balance was redressed on Saturday when Sir Paul McCartney kicked off his One On One tour at Perth's NIB Stadium.

The 75-year-old paraded the stage with a youthful exuberance bouyed, no doubt, by a rapturous reception from the crowd as he took them on a journey through some of the Beatles and Wings best-loved tracks.

The Hey Jude hitmaker wore a black military-style jacket with silver buttons and a yellow daffodil brooch - a symbol of UK cancer charity Marie Curie.

Also featuring sergeant's stripes the jacket, although quite monotone, would not have been out of place in the Beatles' Sgt Pepper days.

He also wore a pair of black trousers and similarly coloured shoes but broke up his noir look with a white shirt that featured a Nehru collar.

With his brunette locks - that showed a smattering of grey at the temples - falling over his collar, Paul looked every bit the distinguished rocker.

Paul seemed to be in his element as he beamed broadly to the audience.

He also gave fans an added sense of nostalgia, clutching tightly to his iconic Hofner violin bass that has been a fixture for most of his career.

Despite being at the top of the musical tree for more than half a century, Paul recently revealed to Stellar magazine that he still has 'pinch me' moments.

'I do sometimes think, ‘Wait a minute! I was one of The Beatles! Can you believe that?’ Paul told the publication.

'Occasionally these things occur to me. Normally it’s just something I take for granted, but sometimes I look at it and think, "Bloody hell, it’s amazing." Then I get right off it before my head explodes.'

Paul was last in Australia for his 1993 The New World tour.

We can work it out: Obviously knowing how to work a room, Paul held those in attendance in the palm of his hand, rousing the audience with excited finger pointing
