Boris Johnson's sister Rachel is the first contestant confirmed for the new series of Celebrity Big Brother.

Channel 5 took to Twitter on Sunday to announce the journalist, 52, will be one of the first to enter the famous Borehamwood mansion during its live launch show on January 2 - alongside the rest of the females on the line-up.

Rachel is the sister of Foreign Secretary Boris, and the daughter of former MEP Stanley, who recently found success on ITV's I'm A Celebrity.

Big Brother UK wrote on their Twitter page: 'We can confirm that journalist @RachelSJohnson will be one of the female Celebrity Big Brother housemates entering the House live at 9pm, Tuesday 2nd January on channel5_tv!' 

Rachel is a journalist and novelist as well as a politican - having been a member of the Conservative party until 2011, when she joined the Liberal Democrats.

She is married to Ivo Dawnay, who is the London director of the National Trust, and the pair live with their children Oliver, Ludo and Charlotte in Somerset.

Her appearance on the show comes after the success of her father Stanley on the most recent series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! 

The 77-year-old was the fifth camp-mate eliminated, but won fans over with his gentlemanly nature and witty one liners. 

Celebrity Big Brother is set to return to screens on January 2, with Emma Willis once again hosting.

A teaser clip of the show revealed a glimpse of seven mystery housemates for the upcoming show - who are all set to be women.

Male celebrities will enter as the show goes on, but the series aims to focus on how females interact, in a salute to a centenary of women’s suffrage.

Featuring close up shots of seven eyes, fans were quick to speculate who the line-up could be - with Made In Chelsea's Louise Thompson, retail guru Mary Portas and Coronation Street actress, Shobna Gulati names thrown into the mix.

Following the reveal, fans took to Twitter to say they were convinced the first eye is that of Tattoo Fixers star Paisley Billings, while others put Loose Women host India Willoughby and Ultimato founder Michelle Mone forward.

Wayne Rooney's party girl Laura Simpson has also been linked to the upcoming series.

The 29-year-old catapulted into the spotlight after enjoying on a drunken night with the footballer in September, while his pregnant wife Coleen enjoyed a getaway with their children.

Wayne was charged with drink driving after he drove Laura home in her car.

According to The Sun, Laura is asking for a £75,000 paycheck to appear on the Channel 5 show and dish the dirt on what really happened on that infamous night.
