'Would my wounds open if I got pregnant?' Lisa Riley admits she became broody ahead of surgery to remove loose skin following extreme weight loss... after previously vowing to never have children

She lost a jaw-dropping 12 stone over the course of 18 months after putting herself on a strict diet and gruelling exercise regime.

And Lisa Riley has revealed in an extract of her new book Honesty Diet, sourced by The Mirror, that she came to the realisation she wanted children as she prepared to undergo surgery to remove her loose skin.

The former Emmerdale actress, 41 - who has previously spoken about her desire to not have children - realised her broodiness when she began asking doctors if her 'wounds would open' post surgery if she decided to start a family.

Lisa further detailed her dilemma as she prepared for her loose skin to be removed: 'I don’t know why I did it but the first question I asked before my surgery was, would I still be able to have children?

'Why did I ask that question? I wanted to know would the skin be able to stretch? Would the wound open up? I actually shocked myself.

Last year, Lisa confessed her plans of not having children 'naturally' but would consider adopting.

Her decision stemmed from Lisa's mother passing away from cancer in 2012 - despite being tested for the gene.

And now seemingly reconsidering the idea, Lisa revealed: 'My gene pool is always going to be there, but I can’t be a ticking timebomb. What I can think is that I’m going to live my life to the fullest, and hopefully with what I’ve done I have added years to my life.

'I never wanted to put a child through the agony of losing their mum, something I know only too well.

'But by making huge changes I believe I’ve saved my own life, so it has eradicated that fear of dying,' she continued.

Doctors have also offered their reassurance to Lisa that there won't be any harm to her if pregnant.

Initially speaking of not wanting to have kids, Lisa revealed on Loose Women last year: 'I’ve thought about it long and hard and I discussed it, especially with my mates at home.

'They’ve got loads of kids and I live my life vicariously through them by being a great godmother.'

The former soap star continued: 'But for me, I don’t want to put a child through the pain that I went through - seeing the last three years of my mum, I couldn’t do that to my child.

'So I’ve consciously made the decision that I’m not going to have a child naturally. I’m not.

Shortly after her mother Cath passed away, Lisa informed The Mirror: 'I can’t see myself ever becoming a mum. I wouldn’t want my child to endure the same agony I have endured since mum died of breast cancer.

'And I know I am going to die of cancer too. My mum lost her mum to the illness when she was 22. Nana Mary was just 53 when she passed away from bone cancer. My dad’s mum, Grandma Pat, was 69 when lung cancer took her. And my mum’s dad, Poppa Bill, also died of the disease.

The star slimmed down from a size 30 to a svelte size 12 after shedding an incredible 11 stone.

At the beginning of her weight-loss journey, Lisa restricted her calorie intake to 400 calories a day - and lost a stone in a week.
