Zoopla reveals house prices rise £28 a DAY in 2017

New research by property website Zoopla found that an average home in Britain rose in value by a total of £9,652 this year, the equivalent of £28 a day. The seaside resort of Clevedon in North Somerset was this year's biggest winner in percentage terms, seeing house prices grow by 11.6 per cent, to reach an average value of £334,245.

MARKET REPORT: Commodities rally lifts FTSE to new record

The blue chip FTSE 100 climbed to an all-time closing high of 7630.27 points, up 0.5 per cent or 37.61. And the FTSE 250 index of smaller companies also ventured into uncharted territory, rising 0.7 per cent or 141.1 points at 20.622.17. Yesterday’s rally was driven chiefly by mining stocks, helped by a jump in metal prices. Copper shot to its highest level in three and a half years and other commodities also rallied.

Slash £2k off your mortgage bills AND beat rate hikes

Rates could rise 0.5 points by 2020, the Bank of England has warned. That would push a typical £150,000 mortgage from 2.5 per cent to 3 per cent, adding £38 to monthly repayments. If you started paying this extra £38 into your mortgage account immediately, you could save a huge amount of money — and your family budget won't feel the pinch when rates do eventually rise.

Providers launch top-paying accounts only to close them quickly to new savers. Those who manage to grab them continue to earn the competitive rate.

All three banks now allow customers who use their mobile apps to pay money into their accounts this way. Once a customer logs in to their mobile app they must look for the option in to ‘pay in cheques’.
