'They're NOT related by blood!' Holly Willoughby confuses fans after referring to Tamzin Outhwaite as her cousin as they pose for festive snap with actress's grandmother

Holly Willoughby sparked confusion among fans on Tuesday evening after referring to EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite as her cousin - when the actress is actually the cousin of Holly's husband, Dan Baldwin.

This Morning presenter Holly, 36, shared a festive snap of herself alongside Tamzin and the returning EastEnders star's grandmother Lina.

But it's emergence on social media platform Instagram prompted an inevitable wave of comments after she captioned the shot: 'Me and @glamzin and our Nonna Matriarch! In true #eastenders style... faaaaamly! Xxx FYI.., @glamzinis my cousin.' (sic)

Proving they are close, Tamzin posted a similar picture of the golden-haired trio on her Instagram with the caption: 'Boxing Day at the Baldwin’... family tradition.... nanny Lina the oldest member at 87 and @hollywilloughby.' (sic)

However, it was the presenter's caption that sparked debate among her 2,900,000 followers on social media as some followers were quick to reveal the EastEnders star isn't Holly's relative by blood.

Leading the charge, one fan cleared up the confusion over whether Tamzin was in fact her cousin, writing: 'Well, she's your husband's cousin not yours.'

Another added: 'They're not related by blood! She's her husband's cousin.'

Others remarked: 'She's not her cousin lol'; 'It's her husband's cousin'; 'No genes, she's Dan's cousin'; 'It is her husband's cousin FYI' as well as 'I couldn't care less but why pretend she's her cousin when she's not? Weird.' (sic)

But a number of Holly's legion of loyal fans defended the style maven using the argument that when you marry someone they become part of the family unit.

'When you marry someone you become part of their family!!!! She is obviously proud of the fact!!!' One devoted admirer wrote.

Others argued: 'You clearly care enough to start ranting over a factual comment. You need to calm yourself down. People banging on about good genes so I was making the point that they're not blood related.'

'I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, I call my husband's sister my little sister. I guess it depends how close a family you are. In the grand scheme of things, I just think it really doesn't matter, it's not hurting anyone.'
