They often jet off to exotic far-flung locations to ring in the New Year, with Mexico becoming something of an annual getaway for the couple.

And Jennifer Aniston, 48, and her husband Justin Theroux, 46, honoured their tradition as they touched down in Mexico on Boxing Day to soak up some winter sun.

The couple arrived by private jet alongside Jennifer's friend and co-star of more than two decades Jason Bateman and his wife Amanda Anka.

Jennifer looked typically chic despite the long-haul flight, going incognito in a tan trilby and square-frame shades.

She also wrapped up in a simple black jacket and printed scarf as she stayed close to husband Justin, who kept things similarly casual in a khaki basketball cap. 

They seemed to in relaxed spirits as they stepped off the plane with Jason and his wife of 16 years Amanda.

The couples have been close friends for a number of years - with Jason and Amanda being among the 70 guests invited to Aniston and Theroux's secret wedding in 2015.

They also accompanied the couple - and a small group of their other friends - on an idyllic honeymoon in Bora Bora.

Jennifer and Jason friendship dates back 23 years - with the stars meeting aged just 25 on a show called Simon, before cementing their bond during a skiing trip to Aspen.

Recalling the trip, Aniston told E! News: 'We were all renting a house together. We went to a holiday party in Aspen.

'We were at that guy's house, and you drove the Range Rover backward with the door swung open up the street.'

Jason, who no longer drinks alcohol after admitting his partying ways affected his marriage to Amanda, added: 'A lot of fun stuff happens in the mountains. It's the altitude!'

The pair have since appeared in a whopping five films together, including Office Christmas Party, Horrible Bosses, Horrible Bosses 2, The Switch and The Breakup.

Discussing their affinity for doing the same films, Jason joked that Jennifer blackmailed him into working with her.

'That's all gonna come out in my autobiography,' he told the Guardian in 2011. 'I've got a great deal of dirt on Ms Aniston, and as long as she continues to hire me for her projects, I will not show the pictures.' 

He added: 'We've always just really gotten along well. I think I was just fortunate to be a good fit for parts in her films.'

Jennifer also paid tribute to her old pal with a speech at his Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony in July.

The Friends actress teased her friend about old, embarrassing photos - including one of him on the cover of a Muppet magazine.  

Addressing the crowd, Jennifer said: 'One thing has proven itself to be true and that is having longevity in this business is not easy. Especially starting out as a child actor. Usually that's a story that doesn't always end well. When I actually met Jason it was kind of looking like it could go either way.'

She continued: 'The part that I'm really the luckiest, that I get to witness as his friend, is Jason Bateman the husband, the fantastic father, the dear friend and as we lovingly call him: Grandpa. He looks 12. He acts 100. A head of hair that women envy. He works hard. He's tired.

Aniston has been laying low recently but that is set to change in 2018 thanks to her new show about TV anchors opposite Reese Witherspoon.

Meanwhile Justin celebrated wrapping his new Netflix show Maniac with Emma Stone, a remake of a dark-comedy Norwegian series that will air next year.
