Elizabeth Hurley has revealed her heartache after the death of her beloved dog Lucy.

The grieving actress, 52, shared a heartbreaking Instagram photo showing her and teenage son Damian, 15, clutching shovels after they had buried the chocolate Labrador in a poignant countryside ceremony.

Elizabeth, who is known for her love of animals, looked sombre as she stood by her pet's final resting place while wrapped up warm in the frosty setting.

She was supported by her son who wore a quilted black jacket, jeans and wellington boots as another one of the family's dogs looked on.

The Austin Powers star also shared two beautiful photos of Lucy and a canine companion in happier times, with Lucy seen frolicking in the snow and a sunny Poppy field.

Lucy hit the headlines in 2013 after Liz claimed she had been poisoned while she was away in Australia with then-fiance Shane Warne.   

She tweeted: 'Home Sweet Home. Wonderful to be back but two of my dogs have been seriously ill for the last 48 hours. Vet thinks poison. Horrific.'

 Lucy, seemed to have been most affected by the poison and according to Liz, was hobbling around with bandaged legs.

She wrote: 'Lucy, the chocolate lab, was hit the worst. She still has bandaged legs where the drip went in. Lots of cuddles.'   

The devoted pet owner has often spoken wistfully of her beloved dogs and how they enhance her life.

She previously admitted to sharing a bed with her pet pooches, and told Amuse Magazine that her dogs are an important part of her daily routine.

In 2012 she said: 'I live full-time in the country and try to walk or run with the dogs every day.

'I have three Labradors and a spaniel, all of whom are a lot fitter than me. I’m in love with them all and they all sleep with me.'
