'She's smart, strong, emotional and available': Jodie Foster praises Australian actress Brenna Harding after directing her in terrifying new episode of Black Mirror

She's the two-time Oscar winner widely regarded as one of the world's greatest actresses.

But Jodie Foster has now heaped praise on another fellow female film star, Australian actress Brenna Harding. 

The 55-year-old Silence of The Lambs legend went behind the camera to direct the young up-and-comer in a terrifying new episode of the cult series Black Mirror.

In the episode, titled ArkAngel, 21-year-old Brenna plays Sara, a rebellious teenager who has had a computer chip fitted so her mother can monitor her movements and block anything that may trigger her.

Speaking with The Sydney Morning Herald Jodie gushed over the Australian star's ability to play the difficult part.

'We went through lots of women in casting. And Brenna had never really done an American movie before. 

'I saw a bunch of her stuff from Australia, and I think she's a really exciting actress: smart, strong, emotional and available,' Jodie told the publication.

Mad Men star Rosemarie DeWitt plays Brenna's mum in the episode of the dystopic sci-fi series, which is now streaming on Netflix. 

Gushing over both the women, Jodie added: 'They both feel so honest. They are not starlettes or too Hollywood, they just feel like real people'.

Despite being known primarily for her work on-camera as opposed to behind the camera, this is not Jodie's first time directing for a Netflix series.

The Somersby star was also at the helm of two episodes of Orange Is The New Black and one episode of House of Cards.

In regards to what drew Jodie to directing the new episode of Black Mirror, she told the publication that the series acts as 'a mirror into our own messed-up psyche'.

Of technology the Panic Room star explained: ' We created this monster – it doesn't have feeling, it is not a being, it is a reflection of what we wanted. And I think that's fascinating'.
