She has risen to prominence as the best friend of reality star Khloe Kardashian, who is currently expecting a child with basketball player, Tristan Thompson.

And despite her frequent appearances on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Malika Haqq's socialite status failed to reach Coronation Street star Amanda Barrie, who was not aware of Malika's connection to the Kardashian empire before they met on Celebrity Big Brother.

Malika also revealed on Wednesday night her ambition to break free from the shadow of her best friend Khloe and twin sister Khadijah, with her appearance on the show.

The new series of Celebrity Big Brother kicked off last night (that's us hibernating for the next few weeks!) with an all-female cast of housemates from Ann Widdecombe to Ashley James.

In the short clip, the 82-year-old actress approaches the California native, who is also joined by glamour model Jess Impazzi: 'What do you do, I don't know you?'

Beaming with pride, Malika quickly responded: 'Well I'm a TV personality...on Keeping Up with the Kardashians'.

Falling onto the bed in disbelief, Amanda exclaimed: 'Oh for God sake!'

Much to the brunette beauty's amusement, Malika laughed: 'Oh you're so cute Amanda!'

The English actress went on to question the Pretty Little Thing brand ambassador on her aim on the show: 'Why did you want to come on here?'

Malika quickly responded: 'Well it's been very difficult for me to break outside of working with my sister [Khadijah] and my best friend [Khloe]'.

She started out as a film actress on American movies ATL and Somebody Help Me 2, as well as the 2005 superhero film Sky High, where she played Penny Lent alongside her twin.

Shortly after her film success, Malika appeared on the Kardashian's highly-viewed reality show, which featured her close relationship with Khloe.

Explaining her intentions to Amanda, she continued: 'So it's taken some of the most aggressive challenges for me to step outside of myself', while endearingly moving her co-star's fringe away from her face.

She declared her CBB stint as 'something that I feel like I need to do for myself...I'm officially here alone!'.

This clip follows on from Malika's emotional entrance into the all-female house on Tuesday night, where she broke down in tears during the overwhelming experience.

A little taken aback by her display, host Emma Willis remarked: 'Oh my god, she is crying already!' as she helped Malika up the stairs in her towering heels.
