Good Morning America host Lara Spencer has started the new year with a bang after getting engaged to her millionaire boyfriend Rick McVey.

A spokesperson for the 48-year-old confirmed the happy news on Friday, but gave little details about the proposal, revealing to People that Rick popped the question to Lara who happily accepted.

However, while mother-of-two Lara has yet to reveal further information about the romantic moment, she has happily shared several images from her recent ski trip to Colorado, where she and Rick appear to have rung in the New Year with family and friends.

Despite sharing posting a few images of the snow-filled getaway on her Instagram, however, Lara has yet to make any mention of her engagement, sharing her last snap - of her legs and feet in a pair of toasty sheepskin boots - on December 30.

Lara and Rick have been dating for nearly two years, after being set up on a blind date by a mutual friend. They initially kept their relationship under wraps, but went public after being spotted out on a date in New York City in January last year.

The couple were seen looking incredibly cozy together while enjoying a dinner at trendy restaurant Lure Fishbar in the city's Soho neighborhood.

Both appeared to be enthralled with one another as they could be seen in close conversation throughout the meal, and frequently breaking out in laughter.

The couple also took some time to share several passionate kisses between their sips of wine and bites food at the seafood eatery.

After they had finished their meal they spent a few minutes outside, with Rick lovingly holding onto Lara's Chanel purse before they walked off into the night hand in hand.

Since then Lara has happily shared several images of herself and her beau on social media, including a couple of sweet snaps from a romantic trip to Paris in July.

Lara and Rick snapped a selfie at the Eiffel Tower and posed with the 'best bartender in the world' at the famous Hemingway Bar in the Hôtel Ritz Paris.

Rick has been the Chairman and CEO of online bond trading company, Marketaxess Holdings Inc. since he founded the firm in April 2000.

He took home $13.7 million in bonuses and pay in 2016, and previously served as the managing director of multinational JPMorgan.

Rick, who grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, the son of an oil distributor who invested in stocks as a hobby, according to Fortune.

He got an MBA from Indiana University in 1983, and began as a trader at a Cleveland bank, before moving to Chicago Mercantile Exchange and eventually ended up moving to New York to join JP Morgan.

After spotting a gap in the market, to use electronic trading to take market share from the top banks, he founded MarketAxess in 2000 with two employees and $24 million in capital in a windowless office provided rent-free by JP Morgan.

Today it's a leading powerhouse in small to medium-size trades.

Lara began dating the millionaire financier nearly two years after divorcing David Haffenreffer after 15 years of marriage.

Lara and Haffenreffer, a former CNN reporter, have two teenage children, 13-year-old daughter Kate and 16-year-old son Duff.

And the family still seem plenty happy in each other's company, with Lara posting a picture on Instagram to celebrate David's 50th birthday back in August.

The photo showed Haffenreffer smiling in front of a cake with their two children.

'Happy Happy big 5-0 to the best dad our kids could ever ask for,' Lara's sweet caption read.

The image was one of many Lara posted during her fun-filled summer; she also took the opportunity to flaunt her washboard abs in a bikini picture during a trip to Nantucket, posing happily in a long-sleeved blue striped bikini with a drink in her hand and a big smile on her face.

It is not known whether Rick joined his now-fiancee on the summer trip, however.
