Rigby & Peller loses royal support after 57 years

The upmarket underwear company that supplied lingerie to the Queen has had its warrant scrapped after a tell-all book gave details of royal fittings. Rigby & Peller held the royal warrant for 57 years, but was stripped of support when June Kenton (pictured, main), who transformed it into a world-leading retailer, wrote a book about her work (pictured, inset, her Storm in a D-Cup book). The 82-year-old stayed on the firm's board and continued to fit the Queen's bras at Buckingham Palace even when Belgian company Van de Velde bought her majority stake in 2011 (pictured, bottom-right, the Rigby & Peller flagship store in Kensington, West London). The company lost the royal warrant that it had held since 1960 because Mrs Kenton wrote about fitting the Queen, detailing she was half-dressed at the time and that the fitting was carried out in front of her corgis.

Braunton village could be flooded as sea defences fail

A homeowner fears she might lose the house of her dreams as a part of Devon teeters on the brink of environmental disaster with only one barrier left between flood water and a nearby village. A sea wall protecting Braunton in Devon was breached in November before it was widened even further by Storm Eleanor, leading to dramatic flooding of marshlands surrounding the village. Among those most at risk is Maranda Coleman, whose £340,000 home sits perilously close to a sea wall which many experts believe could be breached at the next high tide. The Environment Agency says it will not pay for repair work because no homes are at risk, leading Ms Coleman to ask: 'Can I even live here anymore?' Environmental groups are concerned the marsh's wildlife is under serious threat, listed buildings are being left to rot in flood water and if left unchecked the water could threaten the village of Braunton and its 7,000 residents.

Sometimes, the subject of the photo is simply a plan that went disastrously wrong - such as an attempt to put a cheesecake in a freezer that ended with the cheesecake on the floor. Other examples include a lazily mislaid layer of cheese in a cheeseburger, dishonestly grouped pepperoni on a pizza and a fresh toilet roll placed on top of a holder instead of being properly attached.
