'He is cheeky!' Nicole Kidman explains THAT 'ball drop' joke husband Keith Urban made on New Year's Eve as she reveals the secret to a happy marriage

Keith Urban made headlines on New Year's Eve when he made a rather interesting joke live on US television.

And Nicole Kidman has explained what the country singer meant by 'ball drop' in an interview with Renee Bargh on Extra.

The Golden Globe winner, 50, gushed about her musician husband and admitted he can be 'cheeky' sometimes.

'He is cheeky, you know that,' Nicole said.

'Now we know how much fun you guys have at home!' Renee replied.

Nicole added: 'I'm very lucky... he has an incredible sense of humour. He's a great guy. He's fun, very fun.'

Nicole then revealed what she thinks is the secret to a happy marriage.

She said: 'I think it's commitment, and also just going, "I love you and I like you", and really contributing to that.'

Nicole continued: 'I am also incredibly fortunate to have met the person I just love being with more than anyone in the world besides my kids. I mean, that's a rarity.'

On New Year's Eve, Nicole and Keith appeared on CNN's New Year's Eve show when Keith made a cheeky joke.

Keith, 50, began to list the Christmas presents he'd bought for Nicole, but realised almost too late that some of the gifts weren't appropriate to share on live TV.

'I gave Nic a backpack, some amazing jewellery, and um, things we can't talk about!' he joked.

Host Andy Cohen then asked what the temperature was like in Nashville and Keith replied: 'Well, there's only one ball dropping tonight!'
