Good Morning Britain's Andi Peters struggled to hold back the tears on Friday, as he conquered his fear of water for the first time on live TV.

The 47-year-old TV presenter faced his fear by going snorkelling in the Maldives, despite admitting he did not know how to swim.

Andi was praised by viewers for taking on the challenge as part of the show's New Year, New You competition, admitting his did not expect to get so emotional.

Ahead of the segment, host Kate Garraway revealed how emotional Andi found the experience, saying: 'Andi Peters we're used to seeing larking around somewhere gorgeous aren't we?

'And he is as well embracing the New Year by trying out some new experiences as he delivers our competition.

'It's really sweet, watch the whole of this, as he's never before tried snorkelling in his life and he does it and he has a really emotional reaction which isn't the normal Andi Peters.'

Co-host Ben Shepherd added: 'It's not what we're used to seeing from Big Guns Peters.'

In a voiceover Andi could then be heard saying: 'They say you can't come here and not go snorkelling, which is a bit of a problem when you can't swim.'

The breakfast presenter was then seen heading into the crystal waters with the instructor, saying: 'I'm actually really nervous about all of this, I've never done this before.'

Donning his snorkel, Andi then slowly fell down into the water, as he could be heard saying: 'But after a shaky start, it turns out I'm not such a fish out of water.'

As Andi exited the water, he struggled to hold back the tears saying: 'Actually, genuinely, a little bit emotional.

'How have I not done that for 47 years because I'm so scared of water?' 

Fans rushed to congratulate the star for conquering his fear, with one tweeting: '@andipeters saw you on the gmb clip in the water, well done for over coming your fear.'

Another wrote:' Just saw the competition ad with you snorkelling/swimming for the first time- well done you! High five coming at you xx'

Coronation Street star Shayne Ward was also seen praising Andi for the moment, tweeting: 'Hey @andipeters I’ve Just seen a clip of you on @GMB Overcoming your fear of water. Proud of you mate.'
