Spielberg is no doubt celebrating his latest directorial success with The Post, which earned $775,000 in 2,375 US theatres on Thursday and has earned $4.2million since platforming over Christmas.

The drama follows The Washington Post's former publisher Kay Graham - played by Meryl Streep - who became the first female publisher of the American newspaper, while Tom Hanks plays editor Ben Bradlee in the historical drama.

It is set in the years following the Vietnam War - which was released in the US on December 22 - and centres around The Washington Post's race to secure and publish the classified Pentagon Papers in 1971, which exposed a government cover-up spanning decades.

Hanks and Spielberg have a great history of working together in the past, with the pair collaborating for critically acclaimed films, Bridge Of Spies, Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal.
