A poster boy for Romanian immigration into the UK, who was welcomed at Luton Airport by Keith Vaz before setting up his own construction business, has died in a car crash. Victor Spirescu, 33, became famous after he was greeted by the Labour MP outside a Costa coffee branch at the airport in 2014 following the lifting of rules preventing migrants from new EU members moving to the UK. Mr Spirescu, originally from Sibiu County in central Romania, died in a collision just one mile from his home in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, at 4am yesterday morning. His heartbroken fiancee, Suzana Mates, 23, today told MailOnline he was the 'happiest person on earth and said she was 'so lost' and 'cannot believe he isn't coming back'. Victor proposed to Miss Mates on May 16 2016 in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, while they were paragliding and popped the question as they were coming in to land on her birthday. The pair were due to get married and would have been together for three years in March. They lived together in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, and he ran an air conditioning company - but also worked for Glenn Armstrong. His body will be flown back to Romania where will be buried in Bucharest.

The Labrador has been named Britain's favourite dog, beating the German Sheppard and the Jack Russell to the crown. The results of a nationwide poll of 10,000 were announced tonight on ITV's Britain's Favourite Dogs. The two-and-a-half hour show hosted by Sarah Cox and Ben Fogle ranked 100 breeds and met some famous faces along the way including Prince Harry.

Ben Fogle irked viewers during ITV's countdown of Britain's Favourite Dogs. It became a talking point when the host of the show walked through a garden gate and closed it behind him. The action may seem innocent enough for Ben who was introducing the programme but when you take a closer look the problem soon becomes clear...

Two neighbours were murdered and plundered of their life savings after taking in university students, it was alleged yesterday. Cambridge-educated former public school teacher Peter Farquhar, 69, (left) was thought to have died in his sleep in October 2015. But detectives became suspicious when his 83-year-old friend, ex-Catholic primary school headmistress Ann Moore-Martin, also died suddenly 18 months later. The pair lived on the same street (right). Neighbours said both had fallen ill and withdrawn from their thriving community in the Buckinghamshire village of Maids Moreton (inset). On Tuesday, two men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, fraud and burglary. A third was held on suspicion of fraud. One of the men, Baptist minister's son Ben Field, 27, was arrested at his family home less than 20 miles away in Olney. A second suspect, Martyn Smith, 31, was arrested at his parents' home in Redruth, Cornwall. The professional magician briefly studied English literature at the University of Buckingham before dropping out. A third man, aged 22, whose identity is not known, was arrested in Milton Keynes. He is believed a Cambridge graduate and Field's brother.

Veronica Lucan, the Dowager Countess of Lucan (left in 2014), was found dead at her £2.9million home in Belgravia, London, in September. The 80-year-old had killed herself after taking a cocktail of alcohol and drugs after wrongly believing she was suffering from Parkinson's disease, an inquest found. Now her son George Bingham (right in 2015) who had been estranged from Lady Lucan along with his two siblings, has welcomed his mother's decision to leave her children out of her estate. 'I applaud the decision by mother to make a legacy to Shelter, a fantastic and worthwhile charity,' he told The Londoner yesterday. For 40 years Lady Lucan was the subject of countless stories and documentaries as the search for her husband, Lord Lucan (inset), rumbled on.

David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49, were both arrested at their home in Perris, California on Sunday after their 17-year-old daughter managed to escape and call 911.  Police went to the home after interviewing the girl and found several of her brothers and sisters shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks in dark, foul-smelling surroundings. But the shocking allegations made against David and Louise are in stark contrast to the life they publicly portrayed on their joint Facebook page. Photos posted on Facebook between 2010 and 2012 show that the couple took their children to Disneyland on at least two separate occasions. Meanwhile, two of the four cars parked outside the family's home in Perris when they were arrested also appear to have licence plates linked to Disneyland - including 'DSLAND' and 'DL4EVER'.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 36, stepped out in a bright pink Mulberry coat during her visit to Coventry today, which she wore twice during her pregnancy with Princess Charlotte. On a visit to the new Science and Health Building at Coventry University, the Duchess showed she's a good sport by joining in a dance during a communication training session with paramedics, although William needed a little persuading.

The Irish rockstar (pictured with her boyfriend and bandmate Ole Koretsky, left, last year and, right two weeks ago) died aged 46 at a London hotel (inset) this week. She had battled depression throughout her career and attempted to take her own life in 2013. In deeply personal interviews with her friend, journalist Barry Egan, in 2014 she told of her fears that she wouldn't live into old age. She said she had to tell herself to slow down and not to feel guilty, adding: 'Because I am not going to live that long. I'm 43. If I see 50, I'll be happy. I mean that.'

Colin Parry's 12-year-old son, Tim (inset, left), was one of two children killed when two Provisional IRA bombs detonated in Cheshire in 1993. The other was Johnathan Ball (inset, right). Chloe Masters, 18 (right), repeatedly asked Claire Sawyer, 41 (inset), how her four-month-old son, Alex (left), had died during an emotional inquest in to his death. Miss Sawyer claims she fell asleep after feeding Alex a bottle of milk on the sofa, but the inquest heard she had also been 'propping' up his bottle while feeding him in his car seat. The inquest heard Miss Sawyer had agreed to look after Alex overnight at a friend's flat in Lincoln - despite a history of taking illegal drugs. Miss Masters thought Miss Sawyer's 'more responsible' daughter, Alice, would also be present.

BBC presenter Steph McGovern hilariously responded to viewers this morning, who mistakenly congratulated her on being pregnant. The Breakfast presenter, who was discussing the collapse of British firm Carillion, received tweets from viewers who thought she was expecting. But Miss McGovern, one of the BBC's most popular TV figures and a leading financial journalists, quipped: 'I am not with child, I am with pot belly'.

NEW This heartbreaking picture shows New Forest ponies in Hampshire deep in grief beside the dead body of one of their group. Chestnut mare Hazel Hill Scrap, who had been missing for 36 hours, was knocked over by a speeding car in the national park and died at the roadside from internal injuries and a broken leg. Her mother and half-sister were among the ponies who found her and watched over her body all night - as motorists continued to rush past.

Forecasters have warned of plunging temperatures and travel disruption as motorists were urged to drive carefully, with Met Office warnings issued for snow and ice across much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. More than 50 schools and nurseries in the Highlands have been shut due to the weather with over 3,000 children enjoying a snow day. Conditions are set to get worse as the week goes on with storm-force winds tearing across the UK. The Dunkirk star shared the picture from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home which had recovered the four Staffordshire Bull Terriers at Victoria Park in Bow, London. He wrote: 'New Staffies found and brought to Battersea this am in a box found in park. Look at them. I want to house them all 8 weeks old. Go see them xxx.' Intake manager Steve Craddock said the abandoned dogs had had a lucky escape and could easily have gone down with hypothermia or dehydration. They have already been found new homes. Hardy is a known dog lover and last year wrote an emotional tribute to his dog Woody after the beloved pet died aged six, saying he was 'devastated for his loss'.

The gorgeous way a father reacted to his wife's new haircut has gone viral after it was filmed by the couple's daughter. Praise Kirkwood, from the US, made her Dad hide his eyes while her mother entered the room showing off her new shaved head - after 20 years of dreadlocks. WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT: An investigation has begun into the mysterious death of a Russian professional climber found dangling in ice from the roof of a student dormitory. Icicles were hanging from Yevgeny Tikhonov's feet and his head was covered with snow. The 26-year-old, also pictured left, was a reportedly a well known industrial climber, who had worked repairing many tall buildings.

Haguette, 76, recognised her husband despite having severe dementia after listening to a song from her childhood in Belgium - Ne Me Quitte Pas, by Jacques Brels, which translates as Don't Leave Me. Haguette moved into a care home in 2014 as she began to slip into dementia. Her illness worsened to a point where she could barely speak and was unable to recognise visitors. In this genuinely touching footage, she listens to the song and begins to sing.

One dog showed the true meaning of puppy love when he greeted his owner who had moved away. Triton the Great Dane was overcome with emotion when he saw his favorite person Brenda. A video shows him leaping up in her arms and standing taller than her. Brenda had moved from Texas to Arizona, but she has made the conscious effort to visit him every two weeks.

The Lynx helicopter, pictured, which has been in service with the Army Air Corps for 40 years will be decommissioned at the end of this month. The Lynx was used by both the Army and the Royal Navy as a medium sized utility helicopter. It is being replaced by the Augusta Westland Wildcat which can operate in more extreme temperatures and altitudes compared with the Lynx. The Lynx has operated across the world and today performed its last flight over the capital. Four Westland Lynx helicopters were joined by an RAF Chinook on its farewell journey above London, flying along the River Thames.
