Charmed to be rebooted with feminist twist at The CW with a focus on 'tearing down the patriarchy'

It was a show beloved by fans for its feminine streak and witchy plotlines.

And Charmed is making a comeback after 12 years off the air with a reboot featuring a feminist twist.

The CW announced on Thursday plans to resurrect the show, after nixing a similar project just one year ago.

The synopsis for the show would surely make the former castmembers, which included Rose McGowan, Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, and for the first three seasons Shannen Doherty, proud.

'This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches,' the official description reads.

'Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy and maintaining familial bonds, a witch's work is never done.'

The original ran on The WB for eight years from 1998 to 2006.

The reboot will be set on the present day, unlike last year's aborted remake which would take place in the late 1970s.

The present setting would potentially allow former castmembers to be featured either as regulars or guest stars.

Producers on the upcoming series will be Jennie Urman, Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin.
