Instead, Melania left Washington D.C. midday on Thursday for West Palm Beach, Florida, (her plane inset right) where she spent a quiet 28 hours before returning to Washington to meet her husband, who returned from Switzerland on Friday evening. Melania has also spent a number of nights at a posh D.C. hotel away from the president following the porn star affair allegations, White House sources told DailyMail.com. The California house of horrors family left their home in Texas just days after one of the 13 tortured siblings escaped in a failed bid for help, a former neighbor has claimed. David and Louise Turpin had lived in a home in Fort Worth, Texas from around 1999 to 2010 before leaving it suddenly and moving to Murrieta, California, Nellie Baldwin, a former neighbor who later bought the home told The Mercury News. The couple apparently lived in that home for a few years - but trashed it so badly, leaving feces on the walls, a rotting bathroom floor, knocked in doors and trash strewn everywhere, that they had to move into a trailer home on the 36-acre property. And in 2010, the end of roughly six or seven years they lived in the trailer, one of the children allegedly tried to escape and find help. She said one of the daughters 'went walking down the road' but didn't get too far when a neighbor spotted her and took her home. 'All of a sudden they just disappeared,' the 78-year-old said. 'No one ever saw them again.'

An Iowa judge on Friday handed three consecutive life sentences to Nicole Finn (left), 43, for the starvation death of her adopted daughter, Natalie (right), and barred her from contacting her surviving children. The mother-of-five, who was convicted of murder and kidnapping in December, said she plans to appeal the verdict.

A rural almond orchard (pictured main) in northern California has become the scene of a shocking double murder, with one body found in a freezer and another in a pond. Martin Christian Ehrke (inset), 49, was charged with two counts of murder on Thursday, after deputies discovered the two women's bodies on the orchard in Arbuckle, a farming community of 3,500 about 50 miles northwest of Sacramento. The murder victims were identified as Kimberly Lynn Taylor (bottom right), 39, and Jessica Lynn Mazak (top right), 25, who both lived on the property with others, police said.

The woman whose glitter-covered breasts were groped at New Zealand's Rhythm and Vines festival has been relentlessly shamed ever since video of the incident went viral. Madeline Anello-Kitzmiller, 20, was walking through the festival in Gisborne, on the North Island over New Year's, when a man emerged from behind and grabbed her breast. Terrifying footage shows the two children desperately trying to swim away from the curious orcas earlier this week. The giant mammals were seen getting close to the youngsters off Waiheke Island, New Zealand. The children can be heard screaming in fear as the two killer whales swam past either side of the children, who clung to each other for dear life. Onlookers can be heard telling the children to 'stay still' and let the huge whales pass.

Indiana father and comedian James Breakwell (left) has revealed how he was hit with abuse after sharing a photo of his four daughters and their pet pig on Facebook in December (right).The picture shows the kids bundled up in winter coats in their van on the way to their grandmother's house. Some social media users on Facebook were quick to dub the photo 'controversial' and said Breakwell was exhibiting bad parenting skills. Users first noted that the children shouldn't have been wearing coats in the car seat and that the seat belts were too loose (inset). They also pointed out that the two-year-old should have been facing backwards and that the pig shouldn't have been in the van. However, several people came to Breakwell's defense saying that the keyboard warriors were overreacting.

This is the terrifying moment a wild elephant ferociously headbutts a safari vehicle full of tourists so hard its tusk rips off. Footage shows the majestic creature emerging from the wilderness and chasing the jeep down a sandy dirt track. It then headbutts the moving vehicle several times, shoving tourists forward in their seats, at the Chobe National Park in northern Botswana.

The town of Kitsault in Canada was built in 1979 for miners and their families at a cost of $250 million in today's prices but closed just 18 months later when the price of the metal they were extracting suddenly collapsed and has been a ghost town ever since. The town, pictured top right when it opened, had modern facilities for its workers including a pub (bottom right) and houses (bottom left) but they all lie abandoned in remarkably good condition while the streets (top right) are eerily quiet. The town was bought in 2005 by an entrepreneur who has plans to revive it.

The adorable moment an orphaned baby elephant, named Loisaba, was welcomed into a new herd at a sanctuary in Kenya has been captured on video. The eight-month old male calf arrived at the Retiti Elephant Sanctuary after being found malnourished and abandoned. In the video, he is seen being fed by a staff member at the sanctuary before being introduced to Nadasoit, who came running down the hill to meet his new friend. They then begin to intertwine trunks, like little children holding hands, as they get to know each other.
