'If you're squeamish, DO NOT watch this!' Tom Cruise shares toe-curling footage of the exact moment he broke his ankle on Mission Impossible 6 set

He was forced to take a break from filming for two months after breaking his ankle during a perilous stunt in August 2017.

And Tom Cruise has now shared the toe-curling moment he suffered the injury while filming Mission Impossible 6, during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

The 55-year-old actor shared slow-motion footage of the moment his ankle snapped after crashing into the side of a building, leading to gasps from the audience.

In the moment, Tom revealed that while has was supposed to crash into the side of the building in the stunt, the angle in which he landed is what led his ankle to snap.  

He said: 'I'm wearing two wires, they're just safety wires because I go to full tilt and I'm sprinting as hard as I can and I hit the side of the wall.

'That's the stunt. I hit the side of the wall... and then I climb up on the wall and I'm supposed to run back.'

As the video begins, host Graham tells viewers: 'If you are squeamish, don't watch this... a bone doesn't pop out or anything but it is an odd angle for anyone's foot to be at.'

The audience are then heard gasping in shock as Tom's ankle bends upon hitting the side of the building. 

Another camera showing the building from the side, as Tom is shown scrambling onto the ledge and hobbling away as he tries to film the next scene.

During the appearance, Tom also revealed that he returned to filming early to ensure Mission Impossible 6, titled Fallout, would make it's July 2018 release date, and that his food is yet to heal in full.

Tom made the appearance on the BBC chat show alongside his co-stars Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, and franchise newcomer Henry Cavill, along with musical guest Paloma Faith.

Speaking about the moment he suffered the nasty injury in August, Tom said: 'I was chasing Henry [Cavill] and was meant to hit the side of the wall and pull myself over but the mistake was my foot hitting the wall. 

'I knew instantly my ankle was broken and I really didn't want to do it again so just got up and carried on with the take. 

'I said, 'It's broken. That's a wrap. Take me to hospital' and then everyone got on the phone and made their vacation arrangements.' 

Henry joked: 'I thought at one point, 'Ah, this is how I go but at least I will have been killed by Tom Cruise and it will definitely make the papers'!' 

Tom's co-star Rebecca Ferguson, who is six months pregnant with her second child chimed in with: 'I made a baby in the break! I thought I'd have at least six months off.'

Asked about the condition of his ankle now, Tom added: 'It's still broken but I'm doing well. It's not fully healed but we are shooting and we have a release date so I just have to keep going. 

'I spent eight to ten hours a day, seven days a week in rehab because we still have some major stunts to do.'

Production for the film was halted for two months while Tom recovered from his injuries, though Paramount insisted the movie would still meet it's planned release date this coming summer. 

Paramount's full statement read: 'During production on the latest Mission: Impossible film, Tom Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt.

'Production will go on hiatus while Tom makes a full recovery, and the film remains on schedule to open July 27, 2018. 

'Tom wants to thank you all for your concern and support and can't wait to share the film with everyone next summer.' 

Luckily the leading man was not bedridden for too long, as Tom was spotted back on set in Brentwood, Essex in October. 

The latest film in the Mission Impossible franchise, titled Fallout, will find the titular Ethan Hunt and IMF team 'race against time after a mission gone wrong'.

Speaking about the story of the film, Tom added: 'It takes into account all the previous Mission Impossible plots and it's the fallout of all the good things we did that are now being used against us.' 

And, ever the daredevil, Tom also spilled the beans on some of the film's most incredible stunts, in a bid to top the moment Ethan Hunt clung to the edge of a plane taking off in the fifth film.

He said: 'There is one big set piece, which has been two years in the planning. We do an aerial helicopter sequence, which in terms of action is the largest we have ever done. 

'We were flying very low near rock faces and I was literally on Henry's tail. It was incredibly exhilarating and dangerous.'
