Dressed in a stunning Valentino gown, the pop star held onto Sam tightly as the talented pair gave off Christmas vibes in their matching green and red ensembles.

She was later snapped beaming at JAY Z from their front-row seats, possibly before the duo were beaten by Bruno Mars for the top gong.

The New Zealand-born vocalist also wore matching smiles with her brother Angelo, who cut a dapper figure in a silver three-piece suit.

TMZ reported the two-time Grammy award winner felt insulted by the committee, after only being offered the option to perform as part of the late Tom Petty tribute.

The site also claimed all other Best Album nominees were offered the opportunity to perform solo, with JAY Z the only act who decided to decline the offer.

It was then reported Lorde refused to walk the red carpet at the event, after growing even more frustrated with organisers.

In a show of solidarity, Lorde's mother Sonja Yelich took to Twitter to throw shade at the Grammys over her daughter's snub.

She tweeted an article from the New York Times about the gender disparity between nominees, with the Times citing a report that claimed out of the 899 people nominated at the last six Grammy Awards, only nine percent were women.

The article also pointed out  Lorde was the only female artist nominated for Album of the Year this year, but wasn't scheduled to perform.

Tweeting out the article to her thousands of followers, Sonja cryptically wrote: 'This says it all.'
