Now that's a plot twist! George Lucas ditches the beard as he arrives with gray stubble to Black Panther premiere after decades with signature facial hair
His image is synonymous with a full bushy beard.
But George Lucas started the new year off with a new look as he arrived mostly clean shaven to the Black Panther premiere in Los Angeles on Monday.
The 73-year-old Star Wars creator posed on the red carpet with wife Mellody Hobson, 48, as he rocked only slight stubble on his face.

He cut a dapper figure for the Marvel Comics superhero movie as he sported a navy plaid dress shirt and matching jacket.
Since his earliest days as a blockbuster filmmaker, George has been seen with a luscious facial mane.
Upon graduating from the University of Southern California in 1967, Lucas co-founded American Zoetrope with fellow filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, who is also a fan of the unshaven look.
George wrote and directed THX 1138 in 1971, based on his earlier student short Electronic Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB.

It garnered positive reviews, but was a financial failure.
His next work as a writer-director was the film American Graffiti in 1973, inspired by his teen years in early 1960s Modesto, California. It was nominated for five Academy Awards.
Then in 1977, George gifted the world with the epic space opera Star Wars, which became the highest grossing movie at the time.

Meanwhile, the razor-happy George looked to be enjoying the opening of the latest addition to the star-studded Marvel universe with his wife of 3 years.
Black Panther will be released nationwide on February 16th.
