Caviezel, 49, is a devout Roman Catholic who is anti-abortion and who famously refused to do love scenes with a naked Jennifer Lopez in the film Angel Eyes.

According to THR.com, screen writer Randall Wallace, who wrote Gibson's Oscar-winning Braveheart, had been working on a screenplay for The Passion Of The Christ: Resurrection.

Wallace told the trade publication in 2016 that his script was for 'a huge and sacred subject' and five months later Gibson revealed the name of the sequel during an interview on CBS' The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, THR.com reported.

Meanwhile, Caviezel will star in the faith film Paul, Apostle of Christ slated for release in March, in time for the Easter weekend.
