McConnell, who was jailed for 34 days at HMP Cardiff, was released shortly before the New Year and celebrated his freedom with a night out.
In his first interview since leaving prison McConnell said: 'I should be held responsible for what I did that day. I got sent to prison and did the time.
'I hit self-destruct...it was my lowest point. Jail gave me time to reflect and I'll never make those mistakes again.'
