2018 could see the first cash Isa season for years

In recent years, many savers have wondered what the point of saving into a cash Isa might be. However, it looks like rates could grow ahead of the new tax year in April. We explain why, how data shows that we are shunning the tax-free wrapper - and the best buys.

Research probing 2,000 adults on their vulnerability to fraudsters found that 29 per cent - the equivalent of 14.8million Britons - would miss the most common methods of looting retirement savings.

Most reliable mobile network revealed as EE

EE, owned by BT, beats all rival networks when it comes to reliable mobile signal, according to an independent research across 267,000 miles of the UK. Of the four major networks - EE, Vodafone, O2 and Three – O2 performed the worst across all categories, according to the RootMetrics data.

Britain’s third largest supermarket, which is owned by American giant Walmart, said underlying sales rose 0.5 per cent in the three months to the end of December.

FTSE live: HSBC falls short despite profit boost

Global bank HSBC reported a 5 per cent profit jump in its full year results, but its share price was expected to suffer as it still lagged behind what analysts had predicted for the company. Meanwhile markets waited for fresh data on how UK industry has fared from the CBI.

Four new Beatrix Potter 50p coins to launch this year

Interest in the coins in recent years have seen many Britons attempt to collect the set.

Experts say even GCHQ is concerned about smart meters

MARKET REPORT: AA drops 3% amid fears of a dividend chop

German investment bank Berenberg downgraded to the bank to 'sell', arguing that the outlook for the firm looks bleaker than it did a few months ago. Berenberg already downgraded the AA in October over worries that investment in its IT systems and insurance division would cause costs to spiral. In a note to investors yesterday, Berenberg warned that AA could be forced to cut its dividend on Wednesday.

KPMG, which has been appointed as administrator, said 266 jobs out of the total 302 have already been axed. The directors of Russell Hume said that the food investigation, and consequent halting of production, had 'created impossible trading conditions' for the company, basically forcing it into administration.

Balmoral Knitwear, based in East Ayrshire, Scotland, specialised in workwear, sportswear and school uniforms. The 120-year-old firm's customers included John Lewis and Harrods.

In a statement, Topshop owner Arcadia denied suggestions that Arcadia 'has been seeking a buyer for some time', denying that it had taken part in discussions with HSBC over a sale.
