Chris wished Rihanna a happy 30th birthday on Tuesday by posting a photo of the singer as a young girl in honor of her big day.

'HAPPY BIRTHDAY @badgalriri,' he captioned the photo.

However, the image drew the ire of many fans of Rihanna, who urged the hit-maker to remove the photo, adds Us Weekly.

Chris claimed that the confession came as a shock to the Barbadian singer, after he had previously told her they were never romantically involved - causing their relationship to turn violent

Speaking candidly about the incident which made international headlines, Chris revealed: 'She hated me. After that, I tried everything. She didn't care, she just didn't trust me after that.

Rihanna said she found it hard to move on from her first love, breaking in tears when quizzed about their volatile relationship on Oprah's Next Chapter in 2012.

She said: 'I lost my best friend - like everything I knew switched in a night, and I couldn't control that.

'So, I had to deal with that and that's not easy for me to understand, interpret and it's not easy to interpret on camera, not with the world watching.'

In 2012 Chris and Rihanna reconciled and dated briefly before splitting again the following year.

Chris went on to have an on/off relationship with Karrueche Tran for several years, though last year he was slapped with a restraining order from her, alleging that he threatened to kill her.
