'If you can sign up to the transplant donor list I can’t tell you how much it will be appreciated by patients and loved ones alike desperate to get their lives back. It works, I can assure you!'

He added that Lucy was reluctant to take her mother up on her offer but is feeling healthy after the operation.

He told Birmingham Live last month: 'There’s nothing funny about a quadruple bypass operation, that much I can tell you.

'Everyone kept telling me I would be fine, but an operation like this does give you a vulnerability that I think is a state of mind.'

Lucy has certainly been through the mill.

In 2012 she revealed that she had been having a tough time following the split from her husband of five years, Welsh actor Owain Yeoman.

She said a battle with anorexia and bulimia had taken the greatest toll, making it all but impossible to work.

She said: ‘It’s all to do with my life-long obsession with weight and food. I’d diet for five days, then binge eat a week’s worth of food in one day. I had an insatiable craving to eat.

‘I was fortunate to have had a lively, happy childhood, but somewhere along the way I convinced myself I wasn’t wanted anywhere or by anyone if I wasn’t thin.

‘I do want to tell people about it because I believe other people have gone through things that I have gone through and we don’t talk about them. We hide ourselves in shame. But I want people to know that they don’t have to feel so bad.

‘If I can help one person by speaking out, that will be enough for me; even though I know I will be opening myself up for criticism. Maybe it will make someone else see there is help out there and I won’t have to feel ashamed.’
