She recently underwent a total hysterectomy after years suffering from endometriosis-related pain.

And Lena Dunham has been pictured out for the first time since revealing she had undergone the procedure.

The actress, 31, stepped out solo in New York on Tuesday - and all as pictures emerged of her ex Jack Antonoff, 33, cuddled up with Lorde, 21.

Lena wore a blue sweater, leggings, and boots as she stepped out carrying a Louis Vuitton purse and shopping bag.

The makeup-free actress had her hair scraped back and a statement necklace on to accessorize.

Lena revealed she had undergone the hysterectomy procedure in the March issue of Vogue.

She said her decision came after 'years of complex surgeries measuring in the double digits' and trying alternative treatments such as 'pelvic floor therapy, massage therapy, pain therapy, color therapy, acupuncture and yoga'.

Lena, who recently split from boyfriend Jack after five years together, can no longer carry a child, but she is now keen to explore her options for motherhood.

'I may have felt choiceless before, but I know I have choices now,' she says.

'Soon I'll start exploring whether my ovaries, which remain someplace inside me in that vast cavern of organs and scar tissue, have eggs. Adoption is a thrilling truth I'll pursue with all my might.'

The HBO star has been very open about her struggles with the endometriosis, a disorder which causes tissue that normally lines the uterus to grow outside of it.

Last April, in a Lenny letter Lena revealed that she was endometriosis-free after undergoing her latest surgical procedure which involved moving her ovaries away from her rectal wall.

But unfortunately it did return, as in May 2017 Lena was forced to leave the New York Met Gala early because of the excruciating pain caused by the disorder.

Meanwhile, Lena's ex-husband Jack was recently spotted cuddling up to Lorde during an outing in the popstrel's native New Zealand.

The outing together comes just a month after he shot down rumors he was dating Lorde just days after the break-up with longtime partner Dunham was confirmed.

'Normally I would never address rumors but I resent having the most important friendships and working relationships in my life reduced to dumb hetero normative gossip,' he wrote. 'Those relationships are deeply important and sacred.'

He added: 'With that said, I'm not seeing anyone. lol.'
