I'm A Celebrity struggles to pull in 500k viewers as Married At First Sight continues to trounce show in the ratings war with an audience of 1.3M

It's become a stalwart of the summer television schedule since it began its successful run in 2015.

But I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here is facing a challenge more difficult than any bushtucker trial as viewers numbers plummeted below 500,000 for Wednesday night's show reports The Daily Telegraph.

Although the Network Ten reality TV show debuted with strong viewing figures of close to a million, audience figures have been falling in the past two weeks, with the show only pulling in an audience of 496,000 five-city metro viewers.

This marks the first time in the show's four series run that ratings have fallen below 500,000.

However the figures do not match up to the 1.27 million viewers I'm A Celebrity scored when it premiered last month.

Despite the addition of the publicity hungry Lisa and David Oldfield, the series barely registered up against Married At First Sight and My Kitchen Rules.

Ten has defended the plummet in ratings in a statement to News Corp which read: '[I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!] is one of the most talked about television shows in 2018 and has enjoyed an average total audience of 864,000 capital city viewers this year.'

Real Housewives Of Sydney star Lisa entered the jungle alongside her husband and One Nation co-founder David Oldfield last week.

He's got the jump on his wife in the feud-stakes thus far, starting an epic war of words with Fiona O'Loughlin in a teaser for Thursday's episode.

While fiery Lisa had all guns blazing for psychic Jackie Gillies  and Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell.
