'Wordvomit and bad-mouthing is inexcusable': Quincy Jones apologizes for THAT wild interview where he slammed Beatles, Michael Jackson and claimed Marlon Brando had sex with Richard Pryor
It was certainly one of the most interesting interviews in recent memory.
And on Thursday Quincey Jones apologized to the many people he offended in it.
The 84-year-old music legend posted a lengthy statement on Instagram asking for forgiveness in the wake of an outrageous piece that appeared on Vulture earlier this month.
'Wordvomit and bad-mouthing is inexcusable': Quincy Jones has apologized for THAT wild interviews where he slammed Beatles and Michael Jackson
In the interview he called Michael Jackson a 'greedy thief', and The Beatles 'no-playing motherf*ckers', claimed he once dated Ivanka Trump, that he knew who assassinated JFK and that Marlon Brando had slept with Richard Pryor and Marvin Gaye.
'When you've been fortunate enough to have lived such a long & crazy life (& you've recently stopped drinking — three years ago!) certain details about specific events (which do NOT paint the full picture of my intentions nor experiences) come flooding back all at once,' he wrote.
'Even at 85, it's apparent that "wordvomit & bad-mouthing is inexcusable.'
The producer claimed that he had already reached out to his friends privately to apologize, but when one lives a public life — as he does — he had a responsibility to be an example an apologize publicly.
Ouch: In the Vulture interview he called Michael Jackson a 'greedy thief', and The Beatles 'no-playing motherf*ckers'
'I'm sorry to anyone whom my words offended & I'm especially sorry to my friends who are still here with me & those who aren't. These friends are like blood family to me,' he wrote.
Jones admitted he decided to apologise after being pulled aside by his six daughters for a 'surprise family intervention.'
'I'm so grateful for my duaghters because they aren't scared to stand up to their daddy,' he wrote.
Strange bedfellows: He also claimed that Brando had sex with Richard Pryor
'I am an imperfect human & I'm not afraid to say it. And I'm sorry & I'm not afraid to say it.'
He signed the letter: 'an 85-year-old bow-legged man who is still learning from his mistakes.'
While Pryor's widow confirmed the sex claims, both Brando and Pryor's children refuted them, and slammed Jones for making them.
In a GQ interview in January — which was also covered under the apology — Jones also claimed Elvis Presley couldn't sing, that he used to buy drugs from Malcom X, that Prince once tried to run over Michael Jackson in a limo, and that Frank Sinatra refused to hook up with Marylin Monroe because of her pear-shaped breasts.
Mea culpa: Jones admitted he decided to apologise after being pulled aside by his six daughters for a 'surprise family intervention' (pictured with Jolie Jones Levine (L) and Rashida Jones in 2014)
