    Penn Muluhgnwi with mentor Dr. Carolyn Klinge

    Penn Muluhngwi joined the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Ph.D. program in 2012. Penn’s Ph.D. research has examined the regulation and activity of miR-29b-1 and miR-29a transcription in breast cancer cells. He was awarded second place in the Doctoral Basic-Science Graduate Student poster competition at Research! Louisville in 2016. He has presented his research at the Endocrine Society and American Association for Cancer Research Meetings. During his time in Dr. Klinge’s lab, Penn has published two first author peer-reviewed research papers, two coauthored peer-reviewed research publications, and two first author peer-reviewed review papers.

    Penn's dissertation defense was April 12th and the title of his dissertation was: Role of miR-29b-1 and miR-29a in endocrine-resistant breast cancer
