'Nobody is going to hit the bull's-eye every single time': Katy Perry discusses dealing with failure as she prepares her American Idol debut

But Katy Perry is not letting her recent dip in fortune hold her back.
The 33-year-old opened up to Parade Magazine about how she deals with 'failure'.

'I’m learning all the time; everything turns into a lesson for me,' she said. 'I’m starting to realize that, after doing this a decade and reaching the highest heights, nobody is going to hit the bull’s-eye every single time.'
The singer's first three studio albums — One Of The Boys (2008), Teenage Dream (2010) and Prism (2013) — sold 17m copies between them.

But her latest offering — Witness, released last year — sold just a fraction of that at 840k copies, shifting just 162k here in the US.
While the album charted at no.1, the singles it spawned, such as Bon Apetite featuring Migos, and Swish Swish featuring Nicki Minaj, barely breached the top 50.

But Katy insisted If you look at your career as a graph chart, don’t get hung up on all the highs and lows.
'It’s about staying on the graph and making sure every move is authentic,' she said.
She revealed some of the best advice she received was from her friend Alanis Morissette, who told her to be transparent — so that whenever anyone looked at her career, anywhere on that graph, they’d look through it and see the 'real' her.
Indeed Katy's very first album, the self titled Katy Hudson, sold less than 200 copies and didn't chart anywhere. However she went on to become the first female artist to achieve five number-one singles in the United States from one album.

'Some of us are more cut-and-dried, but at the end of the day we believe in constructive criticism,' she replied when asked how harsh the new panel members will be.
'We all know how it feels to stand there as artists and be judged and have everything on the line and know that this opportunity can change your life, your family’s life and your whole world. We know that exactly.'
