Inside the horrific lives of some of Mongrel Mob's members

The Mongrel Mob has dominated New Zealand's criminal scene since they sprouted up in 1962, with its members often distinguishing themselves with facial tattoos and wearing red. Now the gang are in Australia, recruiting for chapters in Perth, Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Darwin - sometimes sending members from New Zealand or interstate to make up the numbers. Across the Tasman, the gang has a long violent history, from brawling with Hells Angels during the 1970s to multiple rape charges in the 80s, including the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl.

Overpopulation may lead to tickets for Bondi Beach

Sunbathers may need tickets to access Bondi Beach (main image) if Sydney's population becomes too large, a former NSW premier has warned. Bob Carr said that fences and turnstiles may be considered to reduce overcrowding as Australia's population is projected to hit 40million by 2050 (inset is a graphic showing the projected population of cities). He suggested that tickets could be issued online for access to the beach or the coastal walk nearby. 'Do you have fences and turnstiles around Bondi, for example, when the population reaches the sort of intensified level that means the roads are choked most days in summer?,' he asked. 'Do you start to ration access to the coastal path - fences, turnstiles, online ticketing?' Australia's population is expected to tick over 25 million this year - a number the nation wasn't meant to reach for decades.
