'They’ve set us back 20 years': Caitlyn Jenner slams Donald Trump as 'the worst ever' for transgender community after she BACKED him in election

It seems as if Caitlyn Jenner is having buyer's remorse about her past support of now-President Donald Trump.

The 68-year-old reality star, who voted for Trump, attended his presidential inauguration - and called him 'very much behind the LGBT community' during his 2016 campaign - now says that Trump and his administration have 'been the worst ever' in terms of issues impacting the transgender community.

'They’ve set our community back 20 years, easily,' Jenner told Newsweek on Thursday in New York City appearing at Champions of Jewish Values International Awards Gala. 'It’s going to be hard to change, but we’ve been through these types of things before and we’ll continue to fight it.'

The Olympic gold medalist, an avowed Republican, told the publication that the president has 'do a better job when it comes to equality.'

'We’re all Americans,' she said. 'I think of it this way: We have diversity in mankind, humankind. We have diversity all over the place, diversity in the way people look, diversity in religion, diversity in skin color. Wouldn’t it be a dull world if everybody was the same?'

Caitlyn's comments did not play well on Twitter, where users called her out for her naivety to believe Trump would be a friend to the transgender community; and her non-acknowledgement of other Trump controversies.

Jenner's complaints came less than two years after she told the medical news outlet Spotlight Health that while then-President Barack Obama and his administration had been 'very good' toward the transgender community, she had high hopes for Trump, based on his track record with women and LGBT issues.

'Everybody looks at the Democrats as being better with these issues,' she said. 'But Trump seems to be very much for women.

'He seems very much behind the LGBT community ... he backed the LGBT community,' she said in reference to Trump's 2016 opposition of a North Carolina bill that forced transgender people to use bathrooms in government buildings that corresponded to the gender on their birth certificate.

'In Trump’s case, there’s a lot more unknowns,' she said. 'With Hillary, you pretty much know what you’re gonna get with the LGBT community.'

In February 2017, Trump's departments of Justice and Education nixed Obama era legislation that allowed transgender students to use school bathrooms that match their gender identity.

Caitlyn then took to social media and said, 'I have a message for President Trump from, well, one Republican to another - this is a disaster! And you can still fix it. You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community - call me.'

Trump further had Caitlyn second-guessing her vote when he announced he planned to ban transgender soldiers from the American military last July.

She took to Twitter to tell Trump, 'There are 15,000 patriotic transgender Americans in the US military fighting for all of us. What happened to your promise to fight for them?'

Caitlyn's past support of Trump has called her credibility into question within the transgender community, as she was called 'a f***ing fraud' in a moment caught on camera at an event in Los Angeles last year by transgender activist Ashlee Marie Preston.

'It’s really f***ed up that you continue to support somebody ... that’s erasing our f***ing community,' Preston told Jenner, who responded, 'You don't know me.'

Preston called on Jenner to apologize to the transgender community for her backing of Trump, telling the Huffington Post that Caitlyn's past public support of Trump has made it difficult for 'people who aren’t afforded the same protections and privilege as she has.'
