But The Crown actress Claire Foy showed off a very modern new look as she stepped out with a bowl haircut in London last week.

The 33-year-old actress, who recently announced her separation from her husband Stephen Campbell Moore, debuted the daring crop cut complete with shaved sides as she enjoyed a spot of shopping.

The bowl-like cut, complete with a blunt black fringe, was shaved underneath - a trendy, alternative style called an undercut.

A world away from her perfectly coiffed bob in the hit Netflix drama, the star's brunette locks barely touched her ears as she completed her tomboy look with baggy jeans and white trainers.

She slipped on a chic navy blue coat and accentuated her pretty features with a light dusting of make-up.

The unusual new style comes just weeks after she announced her separation from husband Stephen Campbell Moore, months after he underwent crucial surgery to remove a brain tumour.

The couple, who originally met while working on 2011 film Season Of The Witch, revealed they had parted ways long before the news was made public.

‘We have separated and have been for some time,’ they said. ‘We do however continue as great friends with the utmost respect for one another.’

A source claimed the couple are desperate to keep the split amicable for the sake of their daughter, two-year old Ivy Rose.

While the exact date of the break-up is not known, on the red carpet at January’s Golden Globe awards in the US the actress kept her ring finger hidden in her pocket as she posed for pictures.

Campbell Moore, who starred in the 2006 film The History Boys as well as the BBC’s The Child In Time alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, has had two operations to remove brain tumours.

Five years ago, doctors found a benign tumour on his pituitary gland and removed it.

Last week, the star became embroiled in the gender pay debate after it was revealed she was paid less than her co-star Matt Smith, who plays Prince Philip in The Crown.

The show’s producer Suzanne Mackie said this would change in future series, saying: Going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen.’

She earned a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actor’s Guild Awards for best actress following the first season. She also received nominations at the BAFTA and Primetime Emmy Awards.

Claire is due to leave her acclaimed role in The Crown for the show's upcoming third series, with Olivia Colman set to step into her regal role.

A number of the stars, including Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby are being replaced by older actresses and actors for authenticity as the third season moves into the later years surrounding the royals' lives.
