Masked man armed with knife hid behind a shower curtain and then raped a terrified 12-year-old girl in her New York home

  • Police describe the culprit as a heavyset black man with a Caribbean accent 
  • He reportedly entered the Brooklyn home through an unlocked door and hid  
  • He then attacked the girl when she entered the room and raped her 
  • Police are asking anyone with information about the attack to call 800-577-TIPS

A 12-year-old girl was raped by a masked man armed with a knife in her New York home, police say.

The unidentified man entered the home in Canarsie, a borough in Brooklyn, New York, through what was suspected to be an unlocked door.

He reportedly hid behind a shower curtain and attacked the girl when she walked into the room.

Police say the man threw her to the ground, forced her clothes off and then raped her.

The 12-year-old girl was taken to a hospital nearby where she was treated for a cut on her hand. 

The assault happened on March 5 at approximately 7.30pm and police are still looking for the culprit.

A sketch has yet to be released, but police say they are looking for a heavyset black man who is between 5-feet-4 inches and 5-feet-8 inches tall. 

He has a Caribbean accent, and was last seen wearing a black ski mask and winter gloves. 

Police are asking anyone who might have information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
