'He's The Governor or the Boss': Ben Mendelsohn gushes over Steven Spielberg after starring in his upcoming film Ready Player One

He is starring in Steven Spielberg's upcoming sci-fi flick Ready Player One.

And Ben Mendelsohn couldn't stop gushing over the award-winning director in a recent interview with The Independent.

The Melbourne native, 48, divulged the filmmaker has been dubbed 'The Governor' or 'the boss' by his fellow actors and actresses in the great and the good of showbiz.

'That's what he's known as, it's hardly a state secret,' he told the publication. 'He's Steven Spielberg. I don't expect to see another director like him in my life.'

The actor further shared that Steven was both 'extraordinary' and 'gentle' when he met with the genius for the first time.

He added: 'Steven's singular. He's extraordinary and gentle too. I grew up with Mr Spielberg’s films so I was happy to get that meeting. But I was also very shy, and did a lot of looking at the ground.'

The hunk revealed how Jaws had really struck a nerve for him after growing up watching Steven's nail-biting films.

Ben expanded: 'Jaws for Australians? Terrifying. Because we got ’em. I don’t care about Amity Island. We got sharks! My mum took me to see Jaws at the drive-in and I couldn’t make it over the seat.' 

Based on the 2011 book of the same name penned by Ernest Cline, Ready Player One is set in a dystopian world in 2045.

No doubt Ben got a role in the Steven's movie thanks to his outstanding performance in The Dark Knight Rises, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Darkest Hour.

The actor also won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Netflix series Bloodline from 2015 until 2017.
