'Isn’t that anti-feminism?' Sara Sampaio insists women should never feel shame for being sexy... as she admits to 'feeling violated' over 'unauthorised' topless cover shoot

Reclining in a tasteful Gucci bikini, Sara Sampaio shows off the lithe physique that helped place her at the vanguard of lingerie brand Victoria's Secret and their annual catwalk extravaganza.

But the Portuguese star, who takes centre stage in a sultry new shoot for NET-A-PORTER’s  PorterEdit, insists she will never tone down her provocative image for the sake of what she claims is a misguided definition of feminism.

'I think it’s kind of hypocritical that now people want everyone to be equal, they want everyone to be a feminist,' Sara, 26, told the publication.

'But if a girl is being sexy because she wants to be sexy, people are saying, "Oh, no, you can’t be sexy." Isn’t that anti-feminism?' ?'

A regular feature in the 2014 and 2015 editions of the iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and a prominent entry in a list of the The 20 most beautiful Angels of all time, Sara is all too familiar with using her body to her best advantage.

But she insists her role with the lingerie brand that helped turn her into an international star has nothing to do with sexual objectification, contrary to popular belief.

'Victoria’s Secret is not geared towards men – we are selling lingerie to women,' she added. 'We are selling a dream. Everyone wants to feel sexy.'

But while rigorous dieting and daily gym sessions put undeniable pressure on the brand's stable of model's as they prepare for the catwalk, Sara - who admits to working out five times a week - remains unfazed.

'It is a lot of pressure, but not from [Victoria’s Secret] – I put that pressure on myself,' she said. 'You are constantly in lingerie; your body is constantly on show. You just want to look your best.'

Sara was speaking to the publication while posing in a series of retro sports-inspired ensembles for a distinctly eighties themed photo shoot.

Photographed by Hanna Tveite and styled by Helen Broadfoot, the model commands attention in pieces from designers including Gucci, Tom Ford, Prada, Isabel Marant, Balenciaga, Koché and Axel Arigato.

With her long brunette locks teased into tousled curls and dressed in an embellished shell suit, Sara emulates Flashdance actress Jennifer Beales while posing alongside a ballet barre.

Another image finds the model offering the camera a coquettish glance while  sporting a sleeveless halterneck top and high slung trousers.

Better known for her comparatively revealing Victoria's Secret shoots, Sara admits she's happy to keep her portfolio as diverse as possible.

But she draws the line at going topless for men's magazines after suffering a bitter experience with French publication Lui.

Sara says she was stunned when the magazine allegedly published revealing photos of her after signing a no-nudity agreement.

'I’m fine with nudity,' she explained. 'I have done nudity in the past, but I don’t do nudity for men’s magazines. I can suggest nudity, but I don’t want to show my boobs to a men’s magazine.

'I felt violated (by Lui). Now every time I’m on a set, do I have to delete the photos to make sure nobody uses them?'
