Just hours before the march began, Shahidi shared her gun violence poem on social media.
'When a gun has more rights than you. It may sound like hyperbole but it's true,' she recited in her beginning lines.
'Only 15 years after our celebration of red, white, and blue—the right to bear arms. But in all other conversations about civil rights our government was lukewarm.'
Her poetic outcry for government action has more than 450,000 views on social media.

Snag some polka dots like Yara
Yara Shahidi attended the Kids Choice Awards in a fresh, youthful look. She donned an empire-waist polka dot blouse with thin spaghetti straps and paired it with matching high-waisted shorts.
We're loving this set of coordinates. It's by Rasario's Russian eveningwear designer Rasida Lakoba, who recently branched out into ready-to-wear dresses that featured plenty of white polka dot dresses and even a white polka trenchcoat in the same jacquard fabric as Yara's. Sadly, it was only available at Moda Operandi and the trunkshow has since ended. However, click right to peruse the spring collection and place your orders for Rasario's fall pieces.
If you must have something in white polka dots this spring, see below. Although you can't find exact copies of Yara's look, there are plenty of tops out there that just might satisfy your polka dot cravings.
