Amy Wilson, 27, from Burton-upon-Tent, Staffordshire, (pictured before her weight loss, far left and centre) saw her weight balloon to more than 17 stone after years of gorging on her favourite Galaxy bars, Lindt truffles and Hotel Chocolat treats. She said she was spurred on to lose weight after seeing a picture of herself at her best friend's wedding (centre), where she says she was the largest guest. After transforming her diet and exercise regime, Amy has managed to slim down from a size 22 to a trim size 10, and now weighs now 10st 7lbs (far right, after her weight loss). ...read

Supper clubs are all the rage in London, being a fantastic way to sample food from up-and-coming chefs in a more relaxed and intimate setting than a busy restaurant. Now more and more are opening up in rural regions, and so much the better, because this is where local produce can really shine. The Teal Dining Club is one of the newest to hit the Bury St Edmunds food scene, and Suffolk's stunning ingredients take centre stage here. The club has two monthly nights: one focusing on seasonal produce from the local area, and another themed around a different world cuisine every month, so you can roam the globe without the expense. Visit the website or Facebook page for details of the next evening.

King's Cross has undergone an incredible transformation and the cherry on top is the sumptuous Granary Square Brasserie. The restaurant, masterminded by the same group behind The Ivy and Sexy Fish, presents a jewel box of a place which guarantees to put you in a toe-tapping mood. Think lashings of velvet, dark lighting, exposed brickwork and theatrical chandeliers. Kick things off with the most delicious Granary cucumber-infused martini before gorging on mouth-watering steak, fresh fish and perfectly-cooked vegetables. The tuna carpaccio just melts in your mouth and for after dinner, the camembert peppered with truffle is a must try! Be sure to book in advance as there was a wait-list of 90 minutes the night I visited. It's quickly become the hot ticket in town!

For a taste of Marco Pierre White's Midas touch without straining your purse strings, head to the three-time Michelin starred chefs outpost on London's Kings Road. Located in the heart of Chelsea, its more city slicker then Sloane Ranger and while the menu is peppered with British classics, from roast meats to dressed crab, youd be a fool not to delve into its signature steak line-up. The ribeye and rump cuts are standout dishes, and theres a great value three-course menu deal on offer during the week although beware, most of the meat options come with a supplement. Best washed down with a delicious bottle of red or one of their delicious seasonal cocktails.

With a cold snap biting the UK at the moment, what better way to defrost than with a warming meal? If youre looking to travel to warmer reaches through the power of taste, look no further than SoupStew. The food start-up, based on the historic Petticoat Street Market in East London, is now delivering via Deliveroo and UberEats. This brand does exactly what it says on the tin, with hearty dishes a cross between a soup and a home-cooked stew. You might need a spoon and a fork! There are vegan and vegetarian options including a deliciously smokey aubergine daal. For meat-eaters, the Moroccan-inspired lamb harira and iconic Louisiana Gumbo stew are must-tries. To top it off, the salted caramel brownies are the best Ive ever tasted!

You'd expect grand food at a fine dining restaurant hidden within the labyrinthine corridors of the opulent Royal Albert Hall, and luckily that is just what's on offer at Coda. The menu has been designed by French Michelin-starred chef Eric Chavot, and it is a tribute to classical French cookery. We enjoyed a velvety smooth white bean velouté topped with a perfectly poached egg and crispy shallots, as well as a fresh sea bream ceviche. I opted for chicken for my main - something I rarely do as it's so hard to keep the bird moist - but the meat was buttery and paired well with the silky celeriac puree and earthy mushrooms. To finish, a surprisingly light apple tart that was more of a slice. The pastry was beautifully thin but there wasn't enough of it and the caramel was perhaps a touch overdone. The rich food matches the luxurious setting. Two courses £39, three courses £45.

If you've booked tickets for Cirque du Soleil, kick your night off in style and head to The Ivy Kensington Brasserie for dinner. The restaurant, just a 5 minute taxi ride from the Royal Albert Hall, has a delicious pre-show set menu (£28 for three courses and drinks)with two cocktails inspired by the performance which awaits. The Juggling Kiwi Martini is a delicious blend, which I loved more than I imagined and I swiftly polished off the Wyborowa vodka, sugar syrup and kiwi mix. But if youre more of a bubbles fan, go for the Silky Web, which consists of a funky splash of prosecco, rosé, lychee, ginger and Havana three-year-old rum. The set menu features a nice concise spread including chicken Caesar salad, roast salmon, sauteed mushrooms and a deliciously moreish creme brulee.

If Laura Ashley conjures up images of floral décor, then youll be very surprised by the chic modern opulence of this peaceful hotel overlooking Lake Windermere, which has all the ingredients for a real dream of a weekend away. Its the perfect location for exploring the beauty of the Lake District, but the relaxed atmosphere means you may well be tempted not want to venture too far. Two restaurants serve up the best of British cuisine with local specialities such as Lakeland Venison in the restaurant and Cartmel Valley duck and chilli sausages in the Brasserie standing out as highlights, while a hearty breakfast will set you up for a day of walking. It has all the ingredients for a real dream of a weekend away.

If youre after a spot to instantly make the stresses of the hustle and bustle of London melt away, the Imperial Durbar is like stepping into a cosy living room full on curiosities from India and, more importantly, inventive and spicy cocktails. Standout favourites are the fresh and spicy Chaijito, ideal for energising after a hectic day, and the Mad Maharjah a creamy concoction of scotch mixed with coconut milk and pistachio, topped with absinthe foam. Being able to dial nine from the phone booth and order food from the Cardamom Club is an added treat, and the light and fresh flavours of Southern Indian fish curry and spicy chicken dhansak will easily persuade you to linger long into the evening for a bespoke creation (if you ask nicely) from the friendly and knowledgeable bar staff.

Stuffy South Kensington is the unlikely location of The Orange, a cosy pub and hotel serving up delicious restaurant-quality food. Part of the Cubitt House group, its a little slice of rustic charm among rows of designer boutiques and flashy bars. And now, every month, you can also enjoy intimate gigs in its dimly-lit basement while sipping on seasonal gin cocktails and snacking on chilli salt squid, sage gnocci and Hebridean lamb. Squashed in next to well-heeled locals, we tucked into slices of tangy gorgonzola pizza while listening to the sounds of acoustic duo Lounge Blizzard, playing jazz swing, country and pop favourites with a twist.

The Royal Garden Hotel's afternoon teas are quintessentially English examples of the great British tradition. With a piano tinkling in the background, the Kensington five-star hotel is a soothing place to delight in perfectly cooked scones with clotted cream and homemade jam. We had the Ovo Afternoon Tea, which runs until March 4, and celebrates the return of Cirque de Soleil to London, which this year has a bug-themed show. The cakes are themed accordingly, with pretty sugar butterflies and white chocolate critters. The starter of strawberries with balsamic vinegar was a highlight, as was the large selection of quality loose leaf teas served in homemade tea bags. The sandwiches were tasty, though not as flavoursome as others I've had, and the cakes were frankly hit and miss. However a Baileys-filled choux bun was deliciously boozy, and the pick of the lot. Go for the beautiful setting, and the gorgeous views of Hyde Park. From £31 pp.

As veganism continues to sweep the London foodie scene, even pubs are catching on. Fullers is the latest chain to roll out veggie and vegan offerings across its branches, and city favourite The Hydrant is the perfect place to try it. The small but surprisingly tasty menu includes options like spelt and pine nut salad and Cajun roasted chickpeas. We tried the vegan chilli con carne, a zingy bowl of plant-based goodness that packed a spicy punch and came on a bed of soft basmati rice sprinkled with coriander and smashed avocado. The pumpkin and kale gnocci, swimming in a creamy sauce, were sautéed to perfection. This is no hipster health joint; the veggie options sit comfortably along pub classics like burgers, chicken wings and fish and chips but thats undoubtedly part of The Hydrant's charm.

The City of London is a strange place to be on the weekend as it's so quiet. But though much is closed around these parts, the swanky Devonshire Club remains open, and houses a brunch spot not to be missed. Sushi in the City, on every Saturday, doesn't offer the typical midday fare of fry ups, poached eggs and pancakes, but it's worth mixing up your usual routine to try the delicious Japanese cuisine on offer. The sashimi is fresh and melts in the mouth, while the nigri is a particular highlight, as it's all topped with the highest quality fish. Black cod - a speciality - is divine, with a strong punch of miso, but it's the tempura vegetables and chilli dipping sauce that keeps me going back for more. The £50 price tag is steep but you walk away full, and it's worth paying £15 extra for the truly bottomless Champagne. Yes, it's very 'London' to have sushi for brunch, but embrace the millennial zeitgeist, as the food here is delicious.

Along with perfectly-prepared cocktails, the W London hotel in Leicester Square serves up mouth-watering grub and its latest Dining Series is not to be missed. In the newly-revamped restaurant area, you can choose from a concise meze of creations from Australian-reared chef, Magnus Reid. I popped in on a Monday night, where our lovely waiter Diego ran us through all of Reids offerings. To start, we went for the burrata and the grilled corn, which was rather unusually salted with seaweed. The moreish burrata also came with a snazzy chilli sauce which was VERY hot Diego was right! For mains I cant recommend the vegetarian whole road aubergine highly enough and the crab pappardelle was equally delicious. We didnt have room for dessert but rounded things off in liquid fashion, with a perfectly balanced black Russian. Reids Dining Series runs until the end of February, so get there quick!

A few years ago you might have struggled to find very many foodies flocking to South-East London for the new It restaurant but Peckham is changing that. Aside is the latest eatery to see diners cross south of the river for their dinner. Set in a former community centre on a residential street the restaurant doesnt have the same intimidating aspect as some of centrals most harped about joints. Start with a VERY strong drink prepared by a knows-his-stuff bar tender while you peruse the intriguing menu (I assure you there is not one dish you will not want to try). The menu varies from season to season and I was lucky enough to try the chicken butter with radishes followed by venison with Jerusalem artichokes and a cheese board. Whatever menu you are faced with the Maître d' is clued up on and happy to recommend based on what YOU like not what the chef wants to flog. So hop on that train, Peckham has thrown down the gauntlet.

January has been, perhaps unfairly, maligned as the gloomiest month of the year - but a penny-pinching deal at Drake & Morgan restaurants is sure to brighten your start to the year. D&M; is offering customers a plate of prawns, steak, salad and a glass of fizz for just £9.95. Better still, it'll fit into your January diet as the combination is under 500 calories. You can still take up the offer if you're sticking to Dry January as there's an alcohol-free Prosecco option too. For the truly blue, upgrade to lobster for an extra £10 and you'll probably have a smile on your face by the end of the evening. Our pick of the D&M; restaurants is its city slicker bar The Drift at the base of the Heron Tower, popular for business lunches but equally fab for an after-work drink and bite to eat too.

The latest addition to central Londons bustling Marylebone Lane may be billed as a pub, but dont be fooled. Its seasonal lunch menu and dizzying wine list is about as far from the local boozer as you can imagine. Huddled from the cold in the sumptuously decorated upstairs dining room, we feasted on plate after delicious plate of traditional pub fare with a modern feel. Daily specials included potted pork followed by their take on a shepherds pie: venison pie topped with bone marrow mash and a side of kale, all washed down with a delicious bottle of house red and finished off with a chocolate pot and a slice of toffee pudding cake. The latest addition to Cubitt Houses portfolio is the perfect haven from the chaos of Oxford Street but be warned, you may never want to leave.

High above the pretty Shropshire town of Ludlow is a sweet boutique hotel. Miles from anywhere, it's not the sort of place you'd expect to find a restaurant with a menu to rival that of any high end hotel in London but Forelles at Fishmore Hall is full of surprises. The beautiful country house has just appointed a new chef, Joe Gould, who won Young Chef of the Year in 2015, and he has created stunning dishes that thankfully taste just as good as they look on the plate. We had the nine-course tasting menu (£75), which starts with a bang with its flavoursome wild mushroom risotto dotted with tangy blue cheese. Other highlights include a unctuous wood pigeon dish and cod that melted in the mouth. The lemon tart was the first deconstructed version of the pud I've had that didn't annoy me and was the perfect balance of sweet and tart. A young chef to watch out for - and worth the trek to sample his food.

Aldgate isn't exactly the first area that comes to mind when you think of fine dining and delicious food. But here is where you can find the best kept secret in London: Treves & Hyde. The head chef, George Tannock, turns beautiful, seasonal ingredients into the most delicious dishes that taste as good as anything you will eat at some of the best Michelin-starred restaurants in the capital, but for a much more affordable price (mains cost between £13.50 and £23.80 for pricey monkfish). We feasted on moreish red pesto arancini, fresh-as-you-like seared salmon, edamame and avocado mousse, a simple but stunning crab and lemon pasta dish and a beef bavette that knocks you for six with its bold flavours. Oh, and if the lemon tart is on the menu, order it, because it's the best I've ever had. I don't really want to tell you about how wonderful the food is here, because then you'll all go: that's how good it is.

Camino is without a doubt the best tapas chain. Its mouthwatering morsels always hit you in the face with flavour, and the prices aren't too steep either. I visited the King's Cross branch, and the bare-brick hipster feel inside really fits into this now-hip neighbourhood. My pick of the dishes would be the crispy, salty calamari (£6.75) with creamy alioli, juicy prawns with garlic and chilli (£9.75) - a Spanish classic - the mountanous quantities of fiery patatas bravas (£4.50) they give you, and the gooey cheese fritters with sticky tomato jam (£5). However there is one dish I always have to order at Camino and that's the Presa Iberica - a slow-cooked shoulder of tender Iberico pig served medium rare on creamy and truffley sweet potato mash (£9.75). It's heaven. You know you're in safe hands at Camino, and is the perfect spot for nibbles and drinks with the girls.

Pascere is tucked away on a street just off the famous Brighton Laines, and it's easy to miss. But walking past would be a grave mistake. Here, I had one of those meals where you never want it to end - and I always think it's a good sign when you think you'd be quite happy simply gorging on the beautiful homemade bread and butter. But the next courses were even more sublime. Smoked duck breast was tender and juicy, while the carrots and clementine burst in your mouth with a citrus freshness. The all-singing, all-dancing beef sirloin delivered rich earthy flavours and melt-in-the-mouth steak. It was accompanied by a odd-sounding yeast sauce that was a real revelation. I finished with a floral bergomot orange sorbet, which of course paired perfectly with the hefty chunks of aerated chocolate (a posh Aero, basically). At £40 for three courses, this is a bargain for some of the best food you'll eat this year.

With its gold decor, high ceilings and art deco feel, stepping into Bronte feels like walking through a time portal into a glamorous speakeasy. Situated on the Strand and just a few minutes walk from Charing Cross station, Bronte is the perfect place to meet with friends for a bite to eat and delicious cocktails after work. The venue certainly has the wow factor but the menu seemed a little confusing at first. Happily, the waiting staff were on hand to explain and recommend dishes. There's an odd mix of pan asian and English favourites (like fish and chips) on the menu but the food spoke for itself and my fillet steak was one of the best I've ever tasted. A shoutout to Bronte's sushi too, which was lovely and served as a sharing starter. You're in safe hands on a visit to Bronte.

Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky has released its 25 Year Old expression. The whisky has been mellowed for a quarter of a century and matured in the invigorating sea air of Wick in the Highlands of Scotland. Its spicy sweetness was later granted depth and colour by ex-oloroso Spanish oak butts until it reached the premium age of 25. The flavour is firmly anchored in bitter chocolate and creamy vanilla with hints of toffee sweetness and crisp overtones of fresh lemon and coconut while the finish is long and spicy.
